Solid line = lane boundary, dotted line = lane center. perhaps the cars use some kind of optical sensor to stay on course, like those tiny robots you used in primary school.
Hell, those white lines are nigh invisible in that image. Who the hell did that? And what robots are you talking about?
The problem will be the old cars that don't have this system as well as using cars in different countries.having a second production line for these will be expensive.
I like the idea of automatically driven cars. It seems a lot safer and It would definitely help clear up some of the LA traffic.

No, we never had need of them. I've used them before, but never for school.
I hope that driverless cars don't become 100% of cars. Even if I could buy a cheap car that drives itself I wouldn't do it. Driving can be fun(unless it's automatic transmission). Besides, the motorsport industry would be gone if it's a 100% conversion, and we all know that's not gonna happen, considering the impact motorsport has in the automotive industry.
The high-end Prius is a great example of a car that already uses the lines of the road to guide itself. When you set it to 'guided-cruise', it follows the lines of the highway lanes to keep the car within them, as well as monitoring cars to the right, left and front to make sure speed is consistent. I tried it out when I was with my mom getting a Prius V, and it's both terrifying and awesome.
Hit and runs are gonna get a lot more complicated...
No thanks. I like driving.

Think of it like this: when all cars are driverless then there will be massive demand for awesome tracks/parks for people who want to do a bit of 'real' driving. Who wants to drive manually on a boring old road when you can go on something specifically designed to be fun. [editline]22nd February 2012[/editline] I like the idea of driverless cars if they actually improve safety. I enjoy driving too, but there are plenty of ways to still enjoy driving and not put others in danger if safer systems are available. In the near-term hopefully we'll see a load of automated safety systems on cars, which will hopefully be made mandatory if they work well enough. I'd also imagine we'll be able to have superhighways or ultrahighways or whatever where the cars drive on fully auto at ridiculous speeds at optimal efficiency.

This is bad news.
If it navigates as poorly as a GPS, then I don't want one.
This should be fun
If it navigates as poorly as a GPS, then I don't want one.
GPS alone doesn't navigate anything. It's the software that uses GPS that is sometimes shitty.
if you want a driverless car use a bus
Yeah because Kernel Panics NEVER happen amirite?
they really don't except by user error or hardware failure, in which case you probably would have gotten in a wreck anyway
This is cool until some asshole decides to tweak his car.
It only only took us how long to make cars that can do this? SOON
They're doing it wrong. You're supposed to drive between the lines.
IIRC Google uses self driving cars to take pictures of streets around the world.
if you want a driverless car use a bus
A taxi would be a fairer comparison. I don't see why anyone would have a problem with driverless cars, they won't be widely used until we know they are safe. Aslong as there is still a manual mode for people who enjoy driving, all it does is make life easier.
if you want a driverless car use a bus
buses aren't driverless :downs:
40 pin charging connector, stereo only accepts iTunes purchased media. Has a single button inside. Also doesn't come with any windows out of the box.
It's a revolution. The most innovative car ever.
If it is a mac car, Let's just hope apple doesn't patent everything ...
They will sue Ford after patenting using your hands to rotate an object in order to direct where the car goes.
It's a revolution. The most innovative car ever.
Truly magical.

Didn't James May use a driverless car once in Top Gear?
Didn't James May use a driverless car once in Top Gear?
If I recall correctly, Jeremy Clarkson sit in the driver spot in a 3 Series(?) BMW, and the car was operating itself. Clarkson was doing nothing.
