The one thing I can think of is that it would fuck up North Korea's personality cult pretty hard as the Kim dynasty would most likely very suddenly go from being near-deified (or fully deified in Kim Il-Sung's case) to being corrupt, treasonous frauds that the glorious military had to save the North Korean people from.
All they would have to do is get on state television and say "the Americans killed Kim!" or some other excuse.
All they would have to do is get on state television and say "the Americans killed Kim!" or some other excuse.
That would be a very bad idea. First of all if the military didn't want people like Kim Jong-Un getting in the way then the last thing they'd want to do is make him a martyr. Second, removing Jong-Un won't de-legitamize what remains of his dynasty so long as their personality cult remains unchanged. It gives people a reason to expect the military to follow his successor and question their authority if they don't. Lastly, claiming that a hated enemy successfully assassinated their country's leader would make North Korea look vulnerable. It would make America a much more fearsome opponent in a war, and while they'd be right to be afraid, that's not what the North Korean government would want.
