That's a bad joke even by my standards.
Hello, I'm Riller. Nice to meet you.
Atheism 1 Catholicism 1 republicans 0
[editline]28th October 2014[/editline] Fixd [editline]28th October 2014[/editline]
Hasn't the vatican been saying this for years? Nothing new really.
They even own the Lucifer telescope at the Vatican observitory
you know, this is great and all but sometimes I wonder why the guys with a direct line to god always seem to lag behind the guys with telescopes
So, are they going to print the Bible without the first few pages now or what ?
I think it's safe to say that because God is an omnipotent force that can do things beyond our own understanding, he would generally try to dumb down the Bible so we could understand the impossible. Either that, or the writers of the Bible had taken it down to a human level so we may understand it as well. Though that could be immediately disproven by saying that everything in the Bible is truth, which is true with the bible. I dunno, I feel like the Bible and it's words are still up for interpretation. Take for example that clip from Noah. It is a great example of God's work being interpreted into something that actually makes sense and melds the science behind it. The "days" we had could've really been millions of years, but to help people understand that millions of years passed, they simply referred to it as days.

Not that it matters since it all falls apart once you reach original sin and the evil snake and women being made from ribs anyway. I don't know this just seems like one in a long line of revisions that the catholic church has made to it's previously established dogma in order to not appear hopelessly out of date. Which is good, but on a logical level has to be kind of fucked if you're catholic and believe in papal infallibility and all that jazz.
No one can still explain what came before the big bang, or what comes after the last remaining particle in the universe pops out of existence after some insanely long period of time. Until then, there may as well be a God.. of which we know nothing about. But probably not.
im not at all a religious person, but even when i was a young kid who didnt know shit i knew that the bible wasnt meant to be taken literally sadly lots of grown ups arent that bright
Not bright enough to even understand a joke.
So where does the church draw it's justification as an intermediate between god and humans from now? This is not a cynic question, I'm genuinely interested in the theological theory.
you know, this is great and all but sometimes I wonder why the guys with a direct line to god always seem to lag behind the guys with telescopes
This is Catholicism we are talking about not, Judaism, protestant or other denominations.
CHECKMATE PASTAFARIANS
you know, this is great and all but sometimes I wonder why the guys with a direct line to god always seem to lag behind the guys with telescopes
Galileo was p fucking devout tho
This man is now officially "Person of the year" in my book.
My mother suspects the pope to be the anti-christ and that the end times are coming within our lifetime. [editline]28th October 2014[/editline] Legitimately
This is the same Pope Francis who vehemently defends the practice of exorcism, right? Stating that he isn't as much of a scumfuck as Ratzinger requires very few prerequisites....
Galileo was p fucking devout tho
maybe he should have been the pope then I mean if you aren't a catholic and you think the pope is just a guy in a silly hat then it's not like any of this matters anyway, but I don't get how anyone can resolve papal infallibility with the popes of the past constantly being contradicted by the popes of the present. It's some divide by zero shit.
My mother suspects the pope to be the anti-christ and that the end times are coming within our lifetime. [editline]28th October 2014[/editline] Legitimately
Does she even knows what defines an anti christ? :v:
Does she even knows what defines an anti christ? :v:
It's told in the book of Revelations I think, that the anti-christ will be a near god like figure winning over millions of followers before turning.
Kind of funny how him saying how God can't do anything kind of undermines everything Catholicism used to believe in. If God can't create the earth in 6 literal days and has to use evolution, how can heaven exist? If heaven doesn't exist then there's no point in what you believe in. The Bible is a believe it all or reject it all type of book.
It's told in the book of Revelations I think, that the anti-christ will be a near god like figure winning over millions of followers before turning.
millions seems kind of paltry nowadays, to be honest Any L Ron Hubbard with a lick of sense can drum up a few million followers.
It's told in the book of Revelations I think, that the anti-christ will be a near god like figure winning over millions of followers before turning.
You basically have the antichrist if Stalin or Hitler would have told its people that he is the second coming of Jesus or if he said he was God. Basically when a person seems to be the salvation to all your problems, turns for the worst and declares he is a holy person.
Kim Jong Un is the antichrist
It's so refreshing to hear a powerful Christian saying stuff like this.
Dunno where people get the conception that Christians think that it was all magic. The Old Testament means nothing, and I was taught this exact statement in a school ran completely by nuns. They never forced any of us to pray or anything, simply told us to be good people and regret what we've done wrong. This was in a very Catholic area of Spain, so it might be different in the US.
You basically have the antichrist if Stalin or Hitler would have told its people that he is the second coming of Jesus or if he said he was God.
Hasn't the vatican been saying this for years? Nothing new really.
The Vatican is very much pro-science for the most part. Cannot remember the exact number, but several observatories are directly owned by the Vatican, and the Vatican was also one of the groups which directly funded psychology research in the 1880's, and when it was found that exorcisms were done on people with mental issues, it was immediately seen by the Vatican to be something that is unacceptable to do anymore.
Kim Jong Un is the antichrist
Well he basically is, since its people are praising him instead of God. :v: Edit: He never however said he was the second coming of Jesus, so thats something.
Well he basically is, since its people are praising him instead of God. :v: Edit: He never however said he was the second coming of Jesus, so thats something.
yeah, but kim il sung claimed to be divine and enforced worship of his person across his country there's only one way to interpret that claim if you're christian, right
you know, this is great and all but sometimes I wonder why the guys with a direct line to god always seem to lag behind the guys with telescopes
Hey man, we can't be the only fucked up experiment.
The Catholic church has had a pretty sharp science focus for a while actually. The reason was they had the means to educate their priests and nuns, more so than the general population. Another example of a scientific-breakthrough was the discovery of genetics by the priest Mendel.
I don't see why the Big Bang theory would even be in contrast to anything said in the bible. They line up pretty much perfectly, in the beginning there was nothing, then there was an unorganized mess that got organized.
The Bible isn't expected to be completely literal, perhaps Genesis was phrased the way it was because none had any higher understanding (at the time) of the evolutionary process/Big Bang.
the catholic church still doesn't believe in evolution by natural selection which is what we mean when we say evolution. it's still magic, just disguised a bit better.
