i can understand the cynicism when it comes to hollywood taking on non-american material, but seriously have some faith. this is going to be WB's baby, all pride and joy, for the amount of money and time they're putting into this film.

It's funny how when this movie comes out, people all over will be ranting on how "it's nothing like the Anime", totally oblivious to the fact that the anime movie, and this new one, are both adaptations of the original manga/comic series, and the Akira anime movie leaves out a fucking lot of information.
You could write an entire season of episodes based on the comic, if you wanted to.

God, what's with Hollywood remaking all these animes. First it was plans to make a death note live action film, now it's Akira, and from the ghost in the shell wikipedia page, apparently they're going to do that too. Hollywood has run out of ideas.

My shitty translation of Battle Royale kept all the original Japanese names. It was confusing as hell, I could never remember who was Yumiko and who was Yukiko, Yikaki, Flamingo I don't know it's all foreign words.

Yeah because a movie that's story starts out with a nuclear explosion causing WWIII in Japan that takes heavy hints and ideas from Japanese culture can totally be translated to Manhattan.

I can't think of any off the top of my head, so if you could name some that'd be great. Also, it's one thing to have an American story with Japanese themes, but it's another to take a story that's main basis relies upon Japanese themes, history, and culture.

Pretty much. If I recall correctly, one of the main characters was essentially a Japanese priestess and her entire personality and abilities had to do with the heritage of that.

They should have it in Japan and maybe have one or two white guys at most then I would be okay with this it's not like two kind's of race's in a movie never worked before also it needs to be Rated R or make new law saying (gore,rape,sex,) is okay for PG-13
