Then why don't they draw themselves like asians in their animes. They all have big eyes and long eyelashes. I've never seen an actual asian looking person in an anime.

In the same way western cartoons have relatively different art styles, the same is true of Anime. [editline]26th March 2011[/editline] Thanks Fire Kracker, that's exactly what I was thinking of.
i don't know why you weaboos are getting so hot and bothered over this i mean seriously, it's skin color, get the fuck over it
it's like taking batman and making a japanese remake with an all japanese cast and putting it in a city in japan but renaming it to new manhatten
it's like taking batman and making a japanese remake with an all japanese cast and putting it in a city in japan but renaming it to new manhatten
What's wrong with that?
What's wrong with that?
It probably wouldn't be good.
I stand corrected, it does depend on who draws it.
What's wrong with that?
Evil mastermind Joke Maker in the dark city of Shadow Kyoto is bringing great sadness upon the people. Watari Basu, secretly the honorable champion of the people Batumanuchan, must stop the evil Joke Maker and his legion of drunkard madmen from destroying the pride of the glorious people!
it's almost like anime is you know animation
Pretty much.
okay sure i read the whole thread but whatever your argument pretty much boils down to "white people suck and hollywood sucks" [editline]25th March 2011[/editline] i mean sure akira is good and all but i don't understand why everyone is so bitchy it's not like they can't put the themes of the original akira into this and even if they don't it'll never outshine the original stop complaining
I don't like anime and I've never seen Akira and there are still good reasons to be mad about this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Other

I probably wouldn't want to watch it, but that's because it's not made for me.
I've never seen Akira
you should pretty good movie i mean i would say watch the english dub but it sucks really hard, the voice actors are hilariously bad
you should pretty good movie i mean i would say watch the english dub but it sucks really hard, the voice actors are hilariously bad
It seems like every english anime dub ever is done by the same small group of enormous dorks who suck at voice acting It really makes it hard for me to watch
It seems like every english anime dub ever is done by the same small group of enormous dorks who suck at voice acting It really makes it hard for me to watch
It's not always bad, at least not in my opinion.
It's not always bad, at least not in my opinion.
Princess Mononoke was pretty good if I remember correctly. They actually hired talented actors and redid some of the animation to make the writing seem better in English. I don't watch anime much so I can't say for sure.

I've never seen a good one, ever [editline]27th March 2011[/editline] Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be proven wrong, but every time someone is like "you just saw the bad stuff, here check this out" it turns out to be bad

[editline]26th March 2011[/editline] Silly me, I just read that you didn't. Well thisispain is right, you should see it.
Yeah probs
Yeah probs
Even people I know that hate anime like it, if that's any indication of something.
some people just can't stop themselves from taking culture and fucking rip it to shreds you can't do akira in america you fucking idiots, you ruin the bloody point and to be honest, i hardly doubt they could come even close to translating the complexity of the subject matter. do something new, why ruin shit from the past
Admittedly I don't remember any specifically japanese topics in the akira animation. Sure it was situated in a future version of Tokyo, but the general setting felt like your standard low grade cyberpunk. The premise would work just as well in any modern city with a strict rich poor stratification. To be completely honest I also find non-asian actors (either black or caucasian) to often come off as stronger roles in sci fi. There's just certain mannerism that most asian actors never seem to be able to pull off. In retrospect the perfect city for it would be something like Novaya Moskva. Somehow I get the impression that a US situated Akira would have manhattan more akin to the world of Soylent green
When they turn an anime into a live action film, it sucks. no exceptions.
Why Rober Pattinson?
