This makes me really, really sad.
Project M was the only thing that made newer versions of Smash Brothers worth a damn to me. If Nintendo did this, they made a huge mistake.
FUCK.
I really liked Project M.

True enough I suppose.
Hell I would be happy if Nintendo offered them a job.
Yeah, thats not happening sorry.
I don't know why Nintendo would attack PM. I mean it was a mod that probably made Nintendo a few million bucks in Brawl sales and is the reason anyone boots up the fucking game.
This is legit angering me because I was hyped for PM. It's the definitive Smash game in terms of gameplay that's fun for causals and pros alike, and 4.0 was being hyped up not too long before. Something had to have gone horribly wrong for an announcement to be so fucking sudden.
Does anyone know if the netplay version still works online? Did they abruptly shut down online too?
Well RIP. Time to back up copies of the mod.

Could be related to how a couple of months ago Nintendo started going after romhacks and tool assisted playthroughs of Nintendo system games.
i recall reading somewhere that nintendo started sponsoring some tournaments to get them to stop running PM, but i can't recall where i read that...

What exactly is this whole Project Wavedash thing?
What exactly is this whole Project Wavedash thing?
I would imagine it's just a codename for their actual game.

This is really bumming me out.

I had to search for what project wavedashs was and I couldn't this link

Seems like people weren't expecting this at all
requires a modded console to play.
No it doesn't, all you need is an SD card and a copy of Brawl
I'm surprised it made it this long. Brawl kinda died off a while ago.
I look forward to whatever this Wavedash thing is.

Right. Don't think I've used my Wii since like 2012, so I wouldn't know.

This is pretty much the thing that kept people's attention on Brawl in the first place. It was good enough to be a reason to find a used copy at a Gamestop or in a bargain bin. I mean I like a lot of factors of Brawl more than I do Smash 4 but i'd take Melee or 4 over it any day (besides in terms of stages).
I'm pretty sure they did this because it was stunting their profits for Smash 4, or at least that's how they interpreted it.
This sucks, but Project M was pretty much finished anyway. It's entirely playable and reasonably balanced. I wouldn't let this deter anyone from giving it a try.
It is pretty frustrating that they immediately killed all their download pages, but I'm sure it'll be up elsewhere pretty quickly...

The problem was it was about to become something greater with new characters, branching out and making it it's own standalone Smash game rather than "Brawl but good". There's a number of mirrors, thankfully. Project M will never be lost forever.
Whenever I see Project M I still think of the codename of the team that worked on Other M, Project M. So whenever I hear about this mod I'm reminded of the most garbage Metroid game ever made and it always leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
RIP best smash game
There was obviously a threat of legal action

It still bums me out, I had more fun with Project M than the newer Wii U/3DS Smash.

Because it was a more fun game. The PM dev team put more effort into designing well-thought out and interesting characters than Nintendo ever did.
There will always be melee.
I went to school with a kid that was helping PM in the super early days and he knew I was part of the local melee scene (since we both posted on SWF). I'd go by his dorm room and play his version of PM occasionally and give him feedback. Got to see some really early betas, but the game never played as smoothly as what it was trying to emulate, even at the end, albeit it did offer some much wanted and needed balance changes from Melee.
On top of Project M playing well, the modding scene for it is cool. You can swap out stages to have your own.
Glad I installed project M before this.

I really, really hope somehow the content they were working on (characters/costumes) will get leaked or otherwise finished by other people, it would be fucking shit if those were lost forever.
