I'm honestly kinda relieved.
I know a lot of people are upset but quite honestly I don't see what's so good about Project M after playing Smash 4. Smash 4 is superior in almost every way. The only arguable thing is that the speed of the game isn't as fast paced. Project M has just run its course. It's also in due part to the whole elitistism the Smash community has where they complain how predecessors are better than sequels. Hopefully more tournaments switch to Smash 4 now.
regardless of your opinion on pm, calling smash 4 superior in everything but how long a match takes is silly. they're very different games that fulfill niches and neither is a replacement for the other

good job stating your opinion as fact. PM is an entirely different game from smash 4, and it might just be that it's not your cup of tea. PM has never come close to matching the size of smash 4 in terms of competitive play, and is kept alive by its community. saying you're "relieved" that a passion project that tons of people love is getting shut down is just rude
Man, I'm envious as hell. I wish I had a group that didn't treat the game as if it were chess. I really miss my smash crew.
PM really changed them, and its really made them all bitter.
that's your friends fault. the game has nothing to do with it.
I'm a little upset.
Not really because I played it personally, but my younger brother JUST switched to PM from Smash 4 about a month ago. Which really kind of sucks.
But hey, development on Melee stopped well over ten years ago, and it's still great.

Quiet frankly at the competitive level smash 4 is absolutely terrible, perfect recoveries and extreme reliance on kill moves have stalled the game into oblivion down from the 4 stocks of melee to 2 stocks and sometimes people even suggest just straight up putting it to one stock.
I can understand if you feel jaded about project m because of elitism but honestly pm brings way more competitive and casual play opportunities.

Project M isn't exactly a Smash game, it feels more like what if Dragonball Z inspired it.… Gee, the thought of Lucario playing more like Goku due to the lack of damage increasing the power of his aura makes him perfectly replacable with the latter, especially when both share a VA named Sean Schemmel.
It might even please anyone who was enraged over Mewtwo being cut from Brawl.

honestly if someone thinks the only difference between smash 4 and PM is how fast it is then they probably know next to nothing about the actual competitive scene.

Yeah it's pretty obvious why people prefer Melee and PM. Speed is only a portion of why, there's just a lot more depth to the general gameplay. Lots of tech and small things that make Melee the closest to a traditional fighting game that Smash has ever been.
Smash 4 is good in the sense that its a big step up from Brawl, but it still lacks a lot of those advanced techniques that competitive people love in Melee/PM.
Kinda weird that they're just now ceisting development on Project M rather than ending it years ago, assuming that Warchamp is telling the truth about their reason of doing so. I wonder what's up with that.
Apparently they just recently got legal counseling and realized in how much shit they had gotten themselves in.
I mean nothing else explains them suddenly fearing Nintendo falling on their heads after all these years.
This is, of course, if Nintendo hasn't actually taken action against them now and they're not telling the truth in these posts.
What possible incentive would they have for lying about legal action taken against them?

I'm sorry that you're mad over someone's opinion.
No it doesn't, all you need is an SD card and a copy of Brawl
That's still a modded console - it's just a softmod. It involves running unlicensed code.
Lucario plays like ryu, not goku.
...And Ryu became a unique fighter for Sm4sh. Lucario's Aura Storm is perfectly reminiscent of the Kamehameha.
I was working on a website that allowed people to customize their own Project M builds without having to go deep into the modding tools and Hex Editor to complete certain things and download stuff as one final SD card image, and now that this has happened I'm not sure if I should continue through with my project. Is it a bad idea? Dunno.
I don't want to spread something that might hurt the developers, and I don't want to get into legal trouble myself.
My personal preference comes down to having PM above all the other games because of it's variety of fun and fluid movement options, high speed gameplay, and the widest variety of unique character mechanics. They outright improved just about every character from Brawl to PM and the fact that I cant play as PM Ivy or Ike in any other smash game is really lame. Like I said earlier, the PMDT put more thought and effort into creating unique and fun characters than Nintendo did.
It's pretty much melee but with more characters and improvements to existing ones.

Don't go parading your opinion like it's a fact then.

I'm not though. All I said was that Smash 4 is superior. That's just my opinion and not once in my post did I state my word is fact. What, do we have to add warning now stating "THIS IS ONLY AN OPINION PLS NO BUTTHURT" when we share opinions now? Get over it.
I'm sorry that you're mad over someone's opinion.
It's not "mad" - why does people like you default to the other being "mad" when in reality you're just way off about something? Are you incapable of self-awareness and how ridiculous you're being to an entire community and a community-maintained game?

Sounds like you never got over it, and your opinion was the one that was solidified by initial butthurt. You don't see others getting joyous when games and their communities shut down. What kind of a person does that?
"I can't believe these people like something different instead of what I like. Glad they no longer have the choice, and now have to side with the obviously superior choice: mine!"
Just settle it in Smash already.

The way you and a few select others are reacting is actually kind of amusing. But I digress. I won't continue this. I never intended to stir trouble or parade my opinion as fact. Take it as you will, but I know what I meant and I don't have to prove shit to you or anyone.

To bad EULAs only apply if you actually agree to them. Hotshot used his neighbors PS4, And thus never signed the EULA.
Besides that EULAs aren't exactly always legally binding, and they can't void your RE rights in some states/countries.

So you throw your terrible opinions around and then immediately retreat and backpedal when called out on them, nice, checking your previous history on FP is actually explaining a lot right now
On topic, Project M is great and I'm extremely sad to hear this news having spent countless hours playing it with friends and on Anthers Ladder, but I'm not sure why people are trying to say this is the end. Melee hasn't been updated since it's final release nearly 14 years ago and is still drawing huge crowds. Project M will be able to sit for a while and develop a nice meta which was what upset some people before (if one character was doing great in tournies it would get nerfed).

I'm not backpedaling. I still stand behind my opinion that Smash 4 is superior than PM. Not sure what that latter half of the sentence is supposed to mean but okay.

Why did you even bother, in the first? I don't share his opinion either, but does it really matter that much to you?

in addition they're shrinkwrap licenses

whoa
what a surprise
