PC players "need" a controller to play Assassins Creed 3
Apparently a lot of you guys don't understand the quotations around "need."
They're saying a controller would be better for a game like AC. If you've ever played AC on consoles and PC, you'd know this. It simply works better in nearly every way.
Controller probably works better for navigation but for combat I actually prefer the mouse. So much more control in where I am at people around me.
Honestly though, the majority of us who've had a 360 for more than three years probably has a non-microsoft controller (MadCatz) that works for both PC and 360, so it doesn't bug me too much. I played the first two on controller anyways. It does irk me though that there have been so many damn port games lately.
"I don’t see us investing hugely in a mouse and keyboard setup."
I'm not informed heavily on the subject of how difficult it is to set up different control elements, but wouldn't it be more difficult to set the controller to a PC port than to use computer-default hardware?
In any case, is it really that much of a task to set a game to use a relatively simple control setup to label it a "huge investment"? I wouldn't think it would take more than a week if not days to make it so.
if they dont want to support mouse and keyboard, that just pushes them to become even lazier
uhh yeah pc gamers? we dont have the time or money to give you graphical settings, so just enjoy our low res console graphics too.
(i wish i was joking; mass effect 3 was this way)

I haven't used an off brand controller like MadCatz since the ps2 days, and they were really shitty back then.

It's actually a pretty big deal. Generally a PC setup has very good vert and horizontal navigation while consoles tend to have better vert nav.
Then there's a lot of differences on the way the controller tends to work. A mouse doesn't have hardware accelerations and pressure sensitivity, while a control stick does.
So you need to find a very happy medium between absolutely twitchy controls and ones lazier then a slug, where throwing the mouse around barely turns you around.
Then there's also a difference in movement habits. PC players with standard WASD setups tend to be able to have a lot smoother aggressive movements thanks to the very easy ability of turning on a dime while still aiming at the enemy.
Console players on the other hand tend to not use the same sidestep movements.
Then there's the whole UI thing and a bunch of different things.
Overall the difference between the two control methods is actually pretty huge.
ITT: Immense butthurt.
Brotherhood and Revelations had remarkably good keyboard support. If they keep up with the level of those two I'll be happy.
I admit, a controller is still a better choice for the AC games on PC
My biggest problem iwith AC on controllers is you can't freerun and move the camer at the same time, unless you have a third hand
I play most of my PC games with the 360 controller so no problem here
But its still goddamn retarded that you sort of need a controller to play it...
I've always played AC with a controller since I feel like it's one of those games that play better on a controller. You don't really need aiming precision due to auto-aim, and more than 8 movement directions helps sometimes.
"WAAAAH IT MUST BE THOSE GOSH DARNDED PIRATES CAUSING OUR SALES TO DROP!!!! ADD MORE DRM TO THE GAME!!!!"
Playing a third person platformer game with a keyboard is a nightmare. Keyboards are suitable for FPS and RTS games but I find it difficult to control 3D characters in 3rd person view.

AC2 was pretty good, I played all three games on PC and it worked pretty fine
that being said, a stick would have helped an immense shit-load
how hard can it be to add support? you only use like 5 buttons anyways

weapon slot 1, 2, 3 & 4
mouse acceleration + proper mouse control
and more
...not very easy...
i have a question
why dont they just add an option to configure buttons yourself? like emulators do.

this isn't hard reset or UT99 where it only has bare movement + weapon controls, this is a game that needs much more because you can do more
you have 4 movement controls, 4 action controls, 4 weapon slot controls, then the mouse has to be optimized properly
I'm sure someone with a brain can do it, but it needs to be good and glitch free, otherwise you slice a girls head off when you meant to run
Good thing my PS3 controller works as a gamepad.
my question would be: exactly what the fuck were you hoping to accomplish with saying this besides making hate fodder for video games news aggregation sites?
Maybe they're trying to get themselves out of the PC Industry by pulling off these shenanigans because they believe there's no point in being in it?
It sounds like a crazy conspiracy, I admit, but didn't I recall them saying they actually thought Steam was a failure and that Valve was apparently on the verge of bankruptcy? If they actually believe any of this then they're insane.
Well, glad I have my wireless Xbox controller adapter
Hahaha... cunts.
I didn't really have any problems with the keyboard controls in the other AC games on PC, except maybe the hang glider thing in a certain level, though that could've been a bug.
Well, they might as well just not release the game on the PC at all, seeing as they care jack-shit about the platform.
I can see how this trend, if it holds true, will benefit the emulator scene. And give pirates moral excuses. Digging your own grave, really.
But I do not have a controller with sticks. I only have one with 10 buttons + the up down left right keys.
I played through AC2 just fine with my keyboard and mouse. And my 20 fps. AC: Brotherhood is going fine with it too. Just that I repired the 20fps a little and try to play at 30+fps.
Couldn't you in theory just make your keyboard keys mimic input from a gamepad? I know I can assign keys to work as a mousewheel since I don't have one for those really dumb games that force you to need one.
He's right, movement using a gamepad is way better (And this game has no fps aiming ownzone, so it's perfect for console controlles). I really like smooth movement in platformer games, instead of wasd and shift to run faster. Previous asscreeds were way better with gamepads as well, so yeah
You have a device with over 102 individually addressable keys, yet you insist it will only work on a device which at best can handle two dozen individual controls.
Edit: then again, almost all third person games sucked to play with a mouse and keyboard.
Guaranteed it will be that "360 controller only" bullshit that most games have now.
