PC players "need" a controller to play Assassins Creed 3

Assassins creed has always been shit on the PC. The games don't support anything other then 16:9 monitors.
Really? Does the game have THAT amazing controls over the game so that you need a.. regular Xbox controller?
I don't see the problem, it's the kind of game you want a gamepad for anyways. With my experience from AC1, it's just so much better to use a gamepad (360 controller) than the keyboard and mouse.
It's kind of like why you'd "need" a gamepad if you got a racing game on PC. It just sucks to play otherwise and ruins the experience.
Playing a third person platformer game with a keyboard is a nightmare. Keyboards are suitable for FPS and RTS games but I find it difficult to control 3D characters in 3rd person view.
I find the very opposite. A first person game works kinda okay on a controller but a third person game feels like trying to rudder a boat in wild water.
Couldn't you in theory just make your keyboard keys mimic input from a gamepad? I know I can assign keys to work as a mousewheel since I don't have one for those really dumb games that force you to need one.
The difference is that a keyboard is I/O only which means you can't have varying degrees of input. Hell most gamers also tend to have mice with turned off acceleration which is once more only a static input.
This thread is really funny. A single dev uses the word "need" and everyone takes it literally to the worst meaning.
Guaranteed it will be that "360 controller only" bullshit that most games have now.
I love it when they use the x360 controller, I either use my 360 controller or I just copy over my x360ce config files and have all my four controllers auto-configured.
Makes UT3 SplitScreen a bliss.
Why do I think this is the first of many to come?
They'll probably do it soon or they won't still because they're just SO FUCKING STUPID. :suicide:
It does seem lazy of them to do this, but I really don't see any problem with it. This is due to how difficult it was for me to play the game with a keyboard, and it felt like I needed a third hand just to keep a hold on the keyboard binds. The same thing goes for Dead Space 2.
In this thread, I almost feel like I am the only person who can play thirdperson games with a keyboard / mouse.
I fucking hate gamepads. Probably because I grew up on PC and only own a Wii. I have played racing games on a PS2 using a controller ofc. and then it was comfy, but more action and I can't understand jackshit.

I have a mouse that made playing AC2 insanely easy for me keyboard/mouse wise

action buttons all there, makes things way smoother and better
freedom!
How long would it really take to add keyboard support? Probably half a workday or a whole for a skilled programmer.
Someone find Ubisoft's CEO and bludgeon him/her half to death with a keyboard screaping "THIS IS A CONTROLLER! WHAT NOW BITCH?" over and over.
How long would it really take to add keyboard support? Probably half a workday or a whole for a skilled programmer.
Seeing as they've already done it with previous games it would be a matter of copy and modify a bit.
Hey, hey ubisoft if you're not even bothering with mouse/keyboard support don't even port it.

"Please don't give them ideas"
But in all seriousness, in the latest AC game, I tried playing with a controller, I didn't like it one bit.
It felt so smooth, so easy to control with mouse and keyboard as if it had been specifically designed for it.
They should make keyboard and mouse controls.
But lets not pretend that keyboard and mouse are the solution to everything. They fit a very specific set of needs, mostly first person games (or third person games that control like first person games) and mouse oriented games with mostly optional commands etc. There's still a huge array of other gameplay styles that controllers fill, and I don't think it's such a big taboo that a game should be controller only. Feel free to argue that you could make a keyboard and mouse Skate.
some games are designed to be played with controllers, others with keyboards
i don't see anyone complaining that flight sims basically require joysticks
this is why people think pc gamers are entitled assholes. it's because sometimes, we are. suck it up.
You guys do realise they confirmed keyboard/mouse support, and they just worded it badly as wanted to have controllers as their focus.
Assassins Creed 3 PC Development Phases:
Phase 1: Copy over console code.
Phase 2: ?
Phase 3: Profit

No we are not. Asscreed has no features that cannot be pulled off on a keyboard. You use a joystick in flight sims because real planes use similar devices. The claim would be valid for asscreed if it was played on a leg simulator, but it's not. Not to mention previous titles work just fine on a keyboard.
We are not assholes, publishers fucking are. Hoping for a feature that should be in all pc games is not entitlement, it's common sense.
So why nto give us the option? Would allowing us to bind keys really be that hard?
ITT: People couldn't have missed the point harder if they had tried to intentionally miss it.
Essentially, what people are saying is "I"m totally fine with this because I like using controllers". That is just wrong on so many levels. AC3 should have support for both and you can use whichever one you personally desire to use. Something many companies have been doing for years now.
Just because YOU use a controller doesn't mean everyone should be herded into using one. Get your head out of your arses, people.
AC was designed for the controller, it has more complicated controls with the controller in mind
if you don't have a mouse like mine, you'll have a very hard time most likely playing AC on the pc with a mouse and keyboard.
that's not to say Keyboard/mouse support should always be there, though
where in the article did they say they weren't going to support the kb+m, i swear you people are so damned stubborn about using only kb+m
And bad at reading articles. Just because someone at Ubisoft said "Oh yeah you should play this with a controller" doesn't mean they're "abandoning us fuCK YOU UBISHITT!!!!1231!£23.!". It just means, "Hey, you might find it more comfortable on a controller, so we're going to emphasise using them a bit more than the last games".
where in the article did they say they weren't going to support the kb+m, i swear you people are so damned stubborn about using only kb+m

Well for starters, he's saying that Ubisoft won't be focusing on keyboard support.

You're jumping to conclusions that don't exist, and basically looking like a tit for doing so. A lack of focus on one control scheme doesn't mean it isn't going to be there. There isn't much to focus on for keyboard controls as the fucking thing is entirely capable of being rebound in almost all cases.
This is them justifying being too cheap and lazy to replace the 360 button icons with PC ones.
Oh well, between DRM and calling all PC players pirates, I have no plans to ever waste money on another Ubisoft product.
why does this even matter? I've tried to play AC2 with a mouse and keyboard and it was really difficult. it's obvious that the AC series has its control scheme built around controllers, not kb+m
