North Korea will grow larger. Or at least their gulags will, according to satellite imagery

I wonder if NK will split in half in the future like Germany did after WW2.
Then there would be a North North Korea and a South North Korea :v:

I assumed North Korea was bad.
This was worse.

That has to be one of the hardest things I have ever read.
wow, I never realized just how terrible NK is
how has nobody stepped in?
Because the war would be huge and would probably end up with pretty high casualties.
and everyone would complain like they did with Iraq and Afghanistan.

he didnt specifically say stepping in with declaration of war, plenty of shit has been solved through other methods
maybe sanctions or some shit like that? SOMETHING really should be done at least, but not through war (even if korea has an incredibly raging hard on for one atm)
makes me wish we bombed North Korea tell it was just a crater, innocent people would die, but dying is better than this.

We all need to just stop trading with NK. The country can't support itself on its own resources and it will collapse under its own weight.

nobody really has any economic ties to nk
you would have to get china to place economic sanctions on nk (highly unlikely)

Sanctions? I think NK has about every sanction imaginable imposed on it, which has thus far left many citizens starving to death.
War is the only way you could solve them, but the question is, would it be worth the cost? It's either that or leave them to deal with it themselves

I think the North Koreans would disagree.

The collapse would probably result in casualty rates as high as any war.
Although not entirely, China has largely withdrawn much of their support from NK because NK keeps waving their dick around.
It's barely even a dick, more of a millimeter peter.

The world is so big on rhetoric about never letting the Holocaust be repeated, but this is occurring so openly that fucking layman gamers can read testimonies about torture.
I think all the joking about Best Korea, Kim Jong Il Looking at Things, etc. really makes people forget how fucked up the place is. It's treated like this big joke, but fuck man that was one of the most awful things I've ever read.
North Korea is one of the worst examples of disregard of human life on an institutionalized level that we have. The fact that it's ignored is utterly reprehensible.
I think it's disgusting how people go on tours to North Korea because they think it's cool and weird
I think it's disgusting how people go on tours to North Korea because they think it's cool and weird
Why?
Why?
Supporting a regime that institutionalizes mass torture, rape, starvation, human experimentation. Y'know.

It raises awareness if people tour though
It raises awareness if people tour though
Except it doesn't. The tours are largely run by the state. You're asked not to leave the tour group, you're accompanied everywhere once you leave your hotel and you're taken to see the cities and rarely the country.
It raises awareness if people tour though
Huh? The tours are specially tailored propaganda shows.
That's the issue though, they aren't incompetent. The country is ideologically homogenous, no news gets into the country and the state controls absolutely every aspect of people's lives.
Except their economic system is a complete failure and they are facing greater hostility.
If NK was completely abandoned, it would starve to death.
It raises awareness if people tour though
No it doesn't go to Reddit and read an AMA from someone who went on one of the trips
All they have to say is "it was quirky and weird, but the country is fine don't believe the lies"
I read the PDF and I was wondering if anyone had the contact information for any of the analysts that took part in this overall package. Or at least an idea of where I can contact them directly.

We should just go through and purge their entire military and government
all those guards and judges sound like shit
Huh? The tours are specially tailored propaganda shows.
Only good tour I found was Vice's because they obviously know the whole thing is complete bullshit and they almost get arrested multiple times.

They visited a tea shop in the middle of fucking nowhere run by people that hadn't had visitors in over six months.
They faked a big banquet to make it look like the hotel had people in it, so much so that the food was reused and designed to last those many many fake dinners.
Even without the blatant disregard for human welfare, its still fucked up.

Honestly one of the things that shocked me most was that some of their product was shipped to Europe and Japan for sale. Who the hell in the modern world is buying from North Korea?
Huh? The tours are specially tailored propaganda shows.
Very bad ones. Seriously. For example, you can take pictures in the streets of Pyongyang and some chosen towns.
But only if one specific sort of Kim Jong whoever statue is visible. Because that's the relatively good parts. Should you attempt to take picture anywhere else, the police is going to interfere and take your cam away. What kind of propaganda tours is that.
One of my friends traveled there (business trip, he's journalist). All he could say about all this, is that everything was so painfully obvious. There's no human being to be fooled by it all.

Except for those trapped inside, unable to see their nation from the perspective of the developed world.
Holy crap this is way more serious than I could have imagined
This is pretty much some Nazi Germany shit
I think it's disgusting how people go on tours to North Korea because they think it's cool and weird
people go on tours to NK because they're curious about the country, look how much we know about NK, not as much as we think, we have to rely off google maps and government maps showing us the latest developments, only few have escaped from the prison camps of NK to tell the tale
I think NK is very interesting but at the same time, a very dark and dangerous place where I would literally drop nuts standing on their soil
[editline]27th February 2013[/editline]
VICE's guide to NK was great though, but everyone knows they're horrible. But I can't see anyone stepping up to intervene any time soon
