I'm just so happy my country has a political system where it almost always needs a coalition government (since the two major parties can't get it on their own each election) where even the smallest parties can contribute in the parliament.

Outside looking in, the only people I've seen engaging in identity politics and dividing people by race and sex are the Republicans - specifically Trump.
I mean, Obama is the current President. His biggest opponent was a [I]woman[/I] in 2008. It's pretty shameful the party of Lincoln (when he was President, at-least) we're the ones who passed the Civil Rights bill...

Oh yeah. Sometimes Irish politics can be a mess but at-least we have the ability to you know, actually have nuance, co-operation and representation of minorities in our politics.

He was referring to the democrats' practice of giving people special privileges or programs because they are minorities, treating them like 2nd class citizens that need special treatment in order to succeed. The Republican Party as a whole see the welfare state as an example, where people get stuck in the poor lifestyle of living off the government and having minimal opportunity to get off of the aid and provide for themselves.
