"What's that? Do we have something better to do with our paid time as congressmen and representatives of the American people? Hahahahaha"
Fuck's sake, I wish the only thing going on that they had to worry about was video games, but just maybe there are actual problems they could be fixing instead of who picks up a controller and whose finger you want to put a ring on.
Oh so Mr. Republican, When science is disproving god it's awful and should be condemned, but when science is creating(evidently bullshit) links between video games and violence it's OK? Massive doublestandards you fat, corpulent prick.

please stop talking just please stop
I can picture that warning on Mario.
"WARNING: EXPOSURE TO THIS GAME CAUSES CHILDREN TO JUMP ON INNOCENT ANIMALS ITS SCIENTIFIC FACT"
Oh wait, no it freaking isnt.
Since nobody in Congress has ever played a video game and all of them probably view games as toys for their freeloading teenage children, this will probably pass with massive bipartisan support.
Man, this is fucking stupid.
They should add warning labels to alcohol if anything.
Reading off the beer bottle in my hand:
GOVERNMENT WARNING: (1) According to the US Surgeon General, Women should not drink alcoholic beverages during pregnency because of the risk of birth defects (2) Consumption of alcoholic beverages impares your ability to drive a car or operate machinery, and may cause health problems.

I really hope you realize that this bill is bipartisan?
It is actually true that violent video games stimulate certain areas of the brain attributed to aggression.
The likely hood that a teenager is going to act on these simulations is very unlikely.
When was the last time you heard about a kid that went on a violent rampage after playing a violent video game? I can only think of a few.
Doom caused Columbine
Not the psychopathic kids who brought guns to school, no not them.
Except it doesn't. The studies they have where it says that video games are linked to aggression use bullshit methods to get results.
If I was playing something awesome and it was taken away suddenly, I would feel kind of frustrated.
Can I see evidence where it shows that said studies used bullshit methods?
Note that I'm not behind all of this, and am in fact HIGHLY against it, I just want to stockpile evidence for the argument with some dumb fuck that will inevitably come.
They should put labels on alcohol that say similar to that haha
If this ever gets to debate, I wanna see someone educated on the matter absolutely verbally wreck the ones pushing this bill.
Of course there's a link between violent video games and violent behavior. Violent people like to play violent games as much as non-violent people, they probably like to play non-violent games too.

Their definition of "video game" literally includes any existing piece of software.
Should read "WARNING: Exposure to politicians has been linked to aggressive behavior."

You can see the corruption oozing out of their faces.
Just have it on M and T games, that way soccer moms won't by little 6 year old jimmy GTA for Christmas.
It'll never pass anyway, seeing as how it's both unconstitutional and a waste of everybody's time and money to get those labels on anyway.
Nevermind the fact people will protest over it if it passes anyway.
Every time i see the words "Congress", "Bill" and "Game" in any combination, in any sentence, i gouge out my eyes and skull-fuck myself.
On a side note: I've been playing GTA since i was 7, i drive like an asshole in that game, running over peds and shit, and kill everything. IRL, i am a more careful and skilled driver than anyone else i know, including my parents, and i am completely incapable of killing anyone because i've developed a conscience from all the killing in the games(and a combination of that and watching executions on LiveLeak[i totally regret ever doing that]). But mentally, i want to kick everyone's ass, but i calm down rather quickly. There's no need for this, because unless your child is dumb enough to try and copy those games, you shouldn't worry.

Except an hour of Call of Duty can cause the same affect as watching an action movie or ever better, watching an episode of Loony Toons.
Even if there is evidence for violent media increasing violent behaviour, considering the guy is targeting only video games - and with such a ridiculously wide range of ratings - I highly doubt the guy has actually seen it.
Reason he's not going after violent films is probably the same reason he isn't going after rock n' roll as well; the ability to scare people about it has long since faded away, people would just laugh the proposal off. No political gain to be made anymore.

There is a growing body of evidence that violent media is linked to violent behavior.
The last study does not support that conclusion, it's a review of scientific literature on the subject, and repeatedly points out the lack of empirical evidence of the long-term effects of playing violent video games. It also criticises a number of studies that claimed to prove such a hypothesis. At best, it provides a severely conflicted picture of scientific opinion on the matter. It's only a few pages, not particularly complicated language, worth reading yourself. I'll get around to checking the others later.
Except that they do not cause violent behavior, having an influence on an individual and forcing them to behave violently are completely different things.
These types of warnings are stupid because if someone were to play a game and it inspired them to act violently towards another individual, it's not the game's fault, that individual was obviously disturbed to begin with. The fact that "violent" video games have been around for decades now, and that despite their massive increase in popularity there's been no obvious effect on violent crime is apparent. Of the hundreds of thousands of people who have played violent video games, how many actually committed a violent crime, and of those, how many did it directly because a game influenced them to do so?
The proposed warnig wouldn't say anything "caused" or "forced to occur" anything. It merely says there is a link. And stop using scare quotes.
Except an hour of Call of Duty can cause the same affect as watching an action movie or ever better, watching an episode of Loony Toons.
Absolutely. Please note that I am not saying video games should be made a pariah, or is the sole cause of violence and aggression in younger people. I am saying there is legitimate evidence pointing to violent media being linked to violent behavior. This doesn't mean ban violent media, this means parents should be informed and aware of the potential consequences of their children playing these games and watching these movies.
If they're talking about competitive video games leading to aggressive behavior then it is believable. Its the same thing that happens with sports, the drive to win encourages players to act more aggressively, but not necessarily more violently.
If that's what they're referring to, then competitive sports need the same labels.
So there will be a small label with random text on game boxes.
Informative x1.
