• Congressmen Introduce Game Labeling Bill

Elected officials are so far away from the American people they're supposed to represent. They remind me a lot of the Roman senatorial class or the European nobility of the pre-modern era.
Um don't the current ratings do this anyway. So much energy wasted on bullshit
Current ratings in the United States for videos games are completely optional. The ESRB is a private organization and you are in no way required to do jack shit with them.
Doesn't bother me in a personal sense - I'm old enough to buy what I want when I want it (and when I can afford it, which is not often). HOWEVER - being lied to like this is some serious Orwellian shit and I'm not happy about that.

Am I the only one sick and tiring of feeling like we're constantly under assault by our own Congress? NDAA, SOPA, PIPA, ACTA, data retention bills, FISA courts, this...I'm fucking tired of constantly having to stand up, protest, and fend off terrible anti-internet, anti-technology, pro-outdated-business legislation written by a bunch of old assholes who can barely read their email.
I will be so happy when the dinosaurs controlling our government go extinct. We really need younger and more intelligent minds in Congress.
I will be so happy when the dinosaurs controlling our government go extinct. Politicians are going to act like politicians. They'll always try and usurp power from the masses.
I'd say I play video games in excess but I'm a remarkably calm and collected individual unless I have a genuine reason to be annoyed such as people being fuck heads... Guns, drugs, alcohol, Video games, sex aren't issues in the US, it's the people that are the problems and use these things stupidly, or really terrible parenting. Anyone who says otherwise is truly ignorant.
Why is it that Congress (and the US government, for that matter) is a bunch of middle-aged/elderly people that are so horribly out of date with everything?
Why is it that Congress (and the US government, for that matter) is a bunch of middle-aged/elderly people that are so horribly out of date with everything?
because what young guy would want to deal with these senile old sociopaths?
Why is it that Congress (and the US government, for that matter) is a bunch of middle-aged/elderly people that are so horribly out of date with everything?
Because a lot of people look to success through experience, not ability.
I thought Republicans were all about small government and less regulation. OH WAIT NOT WHEN IT DOESN'T CONFORM TO MY CONSERVATIVE MORAL VALUES THEN THE GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO STEP IN.
Problems with American society: - Racism? - Homophobia? - Consumerism? - Gluttony? - Anti-social behaviour?
What are you talking about, those are the things that make this country great. What are you, a socialist?
I'm 90% sure that any mature person can separate games from life.
And the ratings are kind of straightforward on their own. Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Drug References, Strong language and Partial Nudity kind of speaks for itself.
People are dumb. They need BIG BOLD LETTERS written all over everything they look at, in order to notice it. One of the entrances (and only one) to my suburb is gated and has a bar-code scanner. Multiple signs in BIG BOLD LETTERS telling that you need a barcode to get in are placed everywhere - on the gate, infront of the gate, on the main road, and on the scanner. Dumbasses without barcodes still pull up in cars and wait for the gate to magically open on its own. I think it needs flashing neon letters and fireworks to get peoples attention.
Current ratings in the United States for videos games are completely optional. Not to say that this makes sense or would pass, but... Alright, you want to put such labels on video games? Put such labels on music albums, DVDs, move posters, books, etc.
Not to say that this makes sense or would pass, but... Alright, you want to put such labels on video games? CD: The MPAA rates films and subjection to ratings is optional. However, almost all theaters require a rating below NC-17 to be screened. And if the government (or a government entity) doesn't like a book, they just ban or censor it.
Pictured: Less of an issue than video games
I don't think any studies have proved violent video games make people more violent, except for the bullshit studies that didn't use the scientific method or had a biased agenda.
I expected this shit in Australia or Germany, but the US? Holy shit.
god DAMN I want to slit these people's fucking throats HNGGGGGGGGG [editline]21st March 2012[/editline] I can use the skills I got from grand theft auto! Finally!
I tend to relieve aggressive behavior playing games, by yelling and shouting at the monitor
I want the same kind of labels on Bibles and Churches. "Comsumption may lead to loss of touch with reality and aggressive and destructive behavior."
I feel like if I was not able to massacre people in my child hood I would have been more violent then the opposite now.
Scientific evidence. Bullshit. Take a murderer, ask if he has played any violent games. That's not how you do science. You have to make the game turn a normal person into a murderer.
Everyone knows this is true, ok. It's science.
So our congressmen are deciding to add more warning labels that say the exact same thing as the rating. I actually wish they would do something right like fix the post 9/11 G.I. bill by allowing retired veterans of 20 years to give it to their dependents(kids). (Yes I'm sad that you have to have retired August 9, when my dad retired the year before even though he had 20 years) It should atleast be allowed from december 11th 2011 and on. not after august 9th
1984 has been happening before our eyes since Roosevelt.... The first.
Brave New World seems much more likely because we're already halfway there
I would like to see that scientific evidence. Correlation does not equal causation (Oh god did i say that right?)
They're playing word games. Violent games doesn't cause violent/aggressive behavior unless the player already exists in an already violent/aggressive envrionment. Saying that it's linked lets them tiptoe around this like a bunch of cunt rags since they would be right in the sense that violent games would be an outlet for violent people and encourage violent activities, but not the sole cause. This is dumb and parents should be more aware of the shit they buy for their kids, not whine because little Timmy was caught playing a game they got him for Christmas that involved shooting pregnant women or men in gimp suits.
