There's plenty of passages about killing non-believers, though. I'm not saying they all follow it to the book, but how can you tell which ones do?
I do fear Islam - I don't hate muslims, I don't think they're less than me, but I do have a little anxiety in the back of my mind if I see one nearby as I know the time we're living in and it's impossible to tell who's going to do something and start murdering in the streets. We're in a time now where this can and is happening.
I'd consider myself a fairly reasonable guy, I don't hate anyone based on religion, colour, sexual orientation.. but how can I physically not be scared when stuff like this keeps happening? When ISIS exists?
I'm sorry, I'll leave the thread now - I just wanted to get my thoughts out there. I'm sure a lot of people are thinking the same way but are too scared to say anything.
the only real reason that you feel possibly uncomfortable around muslims is because you've bought into the whole culture of paranoia against them.
i live in lewiston, maine - which is known for it's somali population. all of them are predominately muslim and i've lived around them for years: school, college, grocery stores, whatever, and whenever i go for a walk. this trumps any inexperience i've had, and i think you need to grow the fuck up and stop feeling nervous around them.
Far from it, to be honest. But even as a non-European, I can certainly tell that there's a big issue and it'd be nice to engage in a thought-provoking conversation.
If it does not include the belief that most Muslims (whether "true" Muslims or not), people from a majority Muslim/Arab State or people of color have a tendency to use violence - or are somehow different than other people you are free to discuss as much as you want.
No one is surprised at this, as long as the west keeps pushing these terrorist attacks under the carpet pretending there is not a problem, the more attacks like this will increase. Apparently national security is not a priority if it offends someone.

Nah, nothing of the sort. My opinion is that incidents such as these only ruin it for the majority of immigrants from Islamic countries. Things will only get more and more difficult for them, specially for those who have problems blending into their host country already.
I don't buy the whole "hurr durr they're invading us" logic, that's the media injecting paranoia into people's minds.

And racists taking the bait hook, line and sinker.
Wait if it is a terrorist that's been beheaded then who did it?
It would be amazing if it was factory worker giving them a dose of their own medicine in defence.

Let's ignore European countries taking action for their own security after the Charlie Hebdo attacks(i.e. Belgium country-wide operation to detain suspects, etc.)
talking out your ass there buddy

I don't know if I would stay behind wasting time beheading a terrorist with others still lurking around.
Either way if someone did it I'm sure we'll know.

i wouldn't take his post seriously
Woah what?
Why would they behead one of their own?
No idea, but the corpse isn't an employee. He's still unidentified. Either some unlucky guy they killed beforehand to send the message, or one of their own who wanted to bail. No idea.

People call it Islamophobic when people talk as though the Islam itself is to blame for the attacks, rather than a series of complex geopolitical factors which happen to have had ramifications mainly centred on an Islam heavy part of the world. Islam, in its actual teachings, isn't any more disgusting, misogynist, and ignorant then any religion as commonplace in the West.
These attacks are awful but its not Islam's fault. Blame the organizations exploiting people who already feel oppressed, using their religion as a propaganda machine.

There's a big bit about religious self defense which can be interpreted as killing the infidels, yeah...
But a really similar passage is in the old testament and the Torah.
And there's other bits of all those books about living in harmony with other religions, and about converting through charity.

I never said it was rational, I don't want to feel nervous around them. It's mainly because I come from a place where there is a very, very tiny amount of muslims so I never really see them or interract with them. Doesn't help that my parents are total islamophobes, too.

Nevermind, apparently the beheaded victim is a delivery man who was on his way to the company.

Good idea, so now if we spot a terrorist with a gun he will be like "hey i can carry a gun, it's legal".
Just buy a knife dude.
I always carry a knife in my pocket and a M9 bayonet in my backpack.

what is a 'real muslim'
What is a real Muslim? I think a real Muslim would actually be a p. horrible person.
All things considered, one that follows the Quran and the Hadith's as they're given. The Quran being the literal word of Allah, and the Hadith's the teachings of Muhammad. One thing to consider with that are the schools of Islam being in agreement that it's literal and not interpretive.
