Its easy, you take something that you can wrap around a limb, wrap it around, make it tight. Congrats. You can't make it worse unless you start grabbing the nub where their leg use to be and start tugging on it.
Actually the proper way of doing a tourniquet is to tie it around a stick and then use the stick to tighten it around the arm/leg. You probably can't make it tight enough by wrapping an area of the limb with it by itself. The idea is you want to stop all blood flow to the wound to prevent blood loss, help with pain (i.e. "making your arm fall asleep" basically), prevent disease/infection in that limb from spreading to the rest of the body, etc. Of course you should only do tourniquets as a last resort, because it will kill all bloodflow to the limb, and as such you need to cut it off once the limb "dies".. but, if your limb is already blown off, then there ya go.
Im referring to the guy taking the pictures.
Sooo that's one guy who briefly takes 4 pictures out of how many people there helping out? One guy with the press taking pictures to document what's going on amidst... what, 100 people? More? And you of course know this guy, you know for 100% certain that once he had taken those pictures he just stood around like a jackass. You're not considering the fact that once he was finished documenting the events he joined in on helping the wounded. That thought doesn't occur to you?
Unless the bomber/s strike again.
That city is going to be on full alert and paranoia central for the next few months until they find out who did it, and can safely say they have them in custody/confirmed they're out of the country.
My friend's dad works at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, he says that its getting really, really bad. A lot of lost limbs and really bad injuries. He had a couple patients that took some ball bearings which punched clean through them. The entire staff has been called up to help out and in case of another attack.
two things, 34 limbs, holy shit thats a lot more than i would expect. two: the other bombs, are they just suspicious packages that EOD blew up, or where they actually confirmed to be actual explosives?
So far, everyone who has informed this thread about the additional devices have called them "explosive devices". Whether they were legitimate duds or just suspicious innocent boxes, I do not know. As for the thing about the limbs - that's the number of people who have lost at least one limb.
Ahh that explains a lot. Like the guy just falling over next to the explosion when it went off.
He was exhausted from running all the race and the force of the explosion made him lose his footing. He's 78, CNN interviewed him earlier. He's uninjured, just shaken up. [editline]15th April 2013[/editline]
Did wheelchair guy die or no? I really hopes he makes it :c
No additional information on his identity or if he survived has surfaced, at least not here on Facepunch. I can't believe I've vigilantly stuck to reading this thread and watching CNN and MSNBC since the bombs went off. I'm tired as hell.
This guy I follow on YouTube was less then 50ft away from the blast O.o
Shit. All those limb losses. When I first saw the early reports and the explosions on video, I thought they were horrible, but that they could have been far worse/bigger. Now it's becoming obvious it wasn't the explosions themselves that are dealing out all the injuries, but all the damn shrapnel and ball bearings. Just like a fragmentation grenade or anti-personnel mine. Man, makes me more and more angry thinking about the thought the bomber or bombers put into this. Less about killing and more about scarring people for life. I'm just glad those other six devices didn't go off and hope there aren't more that haven't been found yet.
I didn't hear about this at all during school today. It's weird, we were all just going about our business totally unaware of the chaos and media activity on the outside. Well, fuck. I really do hope nothing else happens, and that people are gonna be okay. Sounds like it'd be fucking horrifying to lose a limb.

I was riding the bus to school when the planes hit, but I didn't know a damn thing until I got home in the later afternoon.
This guy I follow on YouTube was less then 50ft away from the blast O.o
There is a Facepuncher whose name escapes me that was pretty damn close to the explosions. He posted earlier in this thread.
I kept noticing the guy in the orange shirt (iirc) and the long, thin, grey hair falling over immediately after the bomb detonates. He is a runner, and the only one to fall over. All the pictures following show him lying on the ground, and all the 1st responders running past him, and I think in the later pictures there is one that shows him getting helped away from the fences where he fell near. I'm glad.
The problem with stuff like this (tissue damage) that is so chronic is the chance of infection is much higher. I imagine we will tragically lose a few more people throughout the night and maybe a few more over the next few days due to infections Also, damage from necrosis due to a Tourniquet takes like 3 hours to set in. But the whole artery retracting thing makes them a real bitch to get on

This dude on NBC just said what I was saying all night: This is an amatuer bomb.
Why are some people retarded?

The runner is Bill Iffrig, 78. He was competing in his third Boston marathon, and he came away with a scraped knee and a feeling of shock. Bill Sheets of the Boston Herald interviews Iffrig: Iffrig saw the remnants of the bomb – a casing that looked like a coffee can, he said. A race official came to check on him and helped him up. Then, accompanied by the race official, Iffrig walked across the finish line. "I ended up second in my division," he said. "After you've run 26 miles you're not going to stop there."
A third thread has been prepared, since it looks like this will go well into the night. Will post once this thread hits the autolock limit, provided a mod doesn't direct otherwise.

is there anything more known about the guy with the white van or the guy on top of the roof?

gee whiz, i hope if i ever am caught in an explosion, i am in presence of FP'ers who seemingly have medical expertise who also have nerves of steel to act perfectly rational in a terrorist attack i would be safe!
This dude on NBC just said what I was saying all night: This is an amatuer bomb.
I feel like if it was a professional bomb maker there would've been a lot more casualties and maiming, and the 5 other bombs would've gone off.
*Image Snip* Are you fucking kidding me
Self absorbed shits are gonna be self absorbed shits. Sad fact of things like this, there's always some. Too many even.
