I am a very happy iPhone 4S user but I do find myself wanting a somewhat bigger screen. The nexus phones have sparked my interest but the 5" screen seems gigantic. Any "big-screen" phone users wanting to enlighten me about how you like or dislike a screen as big as 5"?
Are you on the latest iOS? My boss is and his 4s keeps locking up and everything..
I am but didn't have lots of problems, few bugs but nothing serious
Wow, this is what my country's official Nexus site still looks like Translation: Galaxy Nexus - Google's newest phone. Android 4.1 coming soon.
We have smartphones with more power than my previous laptop/desktop.
Seriously, this is the biggest wow for me. This phone has more computing power in it than my first desktop had. 2Gb ram on board is simply amazing to see

This phone has more computing power in it than my first desktop had. 2Gb ram on board is simply amazing to see
I think this is interesting:
The LVDC (Saturn Launch Vehicle Digital Computer) was capable of executing 12190 instructions per second. For comparison, a 2012-era microprocessor can execute 4 instructions per cycle at 3 GHz, achieving 12 billion instructions per second, one million times faster. Its master clock ran at 2.048 MHz, but operations were performed bit-serially, with 4 cycles required to process each bit, 14 bits per phase, and 3 phases per instruction, for a basic time of 168 cycles = 82 μs for a simple add. (A few instructions, such as multiply or divide, took a few times this value.)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturn_Launch_Vehicle_Digital_Computer There are dedicated calculators today with more computing power than this.
See, the device looks nice, if they released it without the phone part I would get one. I'm not big on cellphones but I would like having it as a pocket multimedia/wifi device. It seems more open in a sense than my iPod, where I almos feel like Apple is breathing down my neck.
You know you don't have to use the phone part? You can get it off contract.
And my contract is due for renewal in 11 days. Would you look at that
Wonder when they're going to push KitKat out to nexus 7
Shit. I've got enough money, just not in the bank. I hope it's still in stock tomorrow.
Was still in stock. Got one! :) The best moment will not be receiving the Nexus 5, but throwing away my HTC Desire HD.
I have 384GB of RAM in my HTC legend and Android 2.2
jesus christ
I'm not very literate on phones here, but since I'm with AT&T now, can I simply pick up the Nexus 5 from the T-Mobile store, stick my AT&T sim in there and just use it? Or do I have to buy the unlocked one from Google Play or something?
No, if you buy a Nexus 5 from T-Mobile, they're gonna shove you into a 2-year contract on their service. Plus the phone will be locked to only be used on T-Mobile networks. Best thing to do is buy it from Google.
It's kinda funny, because in late 90's early 2000 a lot of desktops ran with 512mb ram or less. Now we got smartphones with more power then early desktops. Nuts.
ram isn't synonymous with power [editline]1st November 2013[/editline]
Should of done this instead of wasting space on the screen + wasting space on the bottom for no reason
physical buttons suck google should experiment with more gestures. i've been using them solely on my daily use n7 and it's great
Now let's wait until Cyanogenmod releases a Kitkat ROM.
I wonder how good the OIS is... eagerly awaiting a video demo
physical buttons suck google should experiment with more gestures. i've been using them solely on my daily use n7 and it's great
Physical buttons are great, the lack of feedback with on screen buttons is a bit shit. They're not flexible enough to warrant taking away screen space though. It will be moot once tactile feedback is possible, in fact if the touch sensor could just detect pressure it would probably be a step up from what we use now.
does your ass look like that?
Desirable.
I have a feeling Kitkat would reduce touch input latency for some reason, I may be very wrong though. [editline]1st November 2013[/editline] I mean the touch lag is all software wise and stuff.

so not really very good

it's like there's constant shaking, not only positionally but rotationally... it's the weird warping effect from youtube stabilization but on a jitter level ew [editline]1st November 2013[/editline] [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3797350/hosting/2013-11/2013-11-01_22-04-19.png[/t] alright, yeah that's pretty damn bad. [editline]1st November 2013[/editline] looks like it'll be a lot better at taking pictures (assuming the HDR+ whatchamacallit feature is good) than video [editline]1st November 2013[/editline] the zoom was pretty good though

About on par with what my Galaxy Nexus looks like in 720p. Maybe with a slightly better dynamic range, but not by much, which MaxOfSD pointed out. [editline]1st November 2013[/editline] Although I assume Youtube hasn't converted the 1080p version yet?
Because that phone is slow as hell, and has a terrible screen? I upgraded to a Nexus 4 and the difference was stunning
slow for what? games? who the fuck cares about how well a phone plays games? i tap an app and it opens instantly. works great for texting, browsing, snapchat and phone calls. and yeah dude i'm sure that lcd is better than an oled lma0
I still have about a year left on my contract for my S2. Maybe in a bit I can end that early and pick up this phone.
I swear Androids UI keeps getting nicer each release.
Doesn't look that different from what they have now?
I ordered a 32GB (white) one this morning on a whim, I like my iPhone but I keep running into OOM issues browsing the web, and I keep getting annoyed at how Apple locks stuff down (Firefox on my N7 beats the crap out of Safari on my 4S)
it's like there's constant shaking, not only positionally but rotationally... it's the weird warping effect from youtube stabilization but on a jitter level ew ...
I see that when I shoot video on my 4S, my hands "jitter" very slightly so the phone is never held entirely steady.
Installed 4.4 on my Nexus 4, it runs a lot faster and google now is integrated into the home so all you have to do is swipe to the left. The font looks stupid though
Ugh want 4.4 so badly. I mean I have no issues on 4.3 but it would be nice to have.
Ugh want 4.4 so badly. I mean I have no issues on 4.3 but it would be nice to have.
you got a nexus 4?
