All opinions are chemical reactions in the brain. The dosage of those chemicals is based on how your brain interprets signals from your senses as well as stored memories. Since we know that the slightest variation in those dosages leads to different emotions, thoughts or feelings, and we know that genes can alter the dosage of chemicals in the brain, then we know that genes effect how people see the world.
Life experiences, genes, a brick to the head at age 1, and many other elements can drastically effect how you view the world. There's no single factor.
There is no such thing as opinions or free choice.
Everything is predetermined since before your birth.
The world is one big simulation hat will happen the same way no matter how many times its played.
it's not saying liberalism is always caused by a gene, you can stop acting so thick. both environment and genes play a distinct part.
yes but genes dont effect personal opinion practically in any way

There is no way ONE single factor that determines opinions. However, I'd like to see a child taken from a long strain of liberal parents to be raised in a conservative household. My money is on the child growing up to be a conservative.

i believe you just missed my post because this is NOT one single factor determining your opinion. it's a gene like any other that simply makes it more likely. i agree with you that it also depends on the environment and outside influence.

explain how a gene can change ones opinion, unless its something like being black and wanting black equality
explain how a gene can change ones opinion, unless its something like being black and wanting black equality
ask the scientists, and i never said genes directly change one's opinion.
the only way a gene could change someones opinion is if it changed there environment which it looks like the gene they are talking about doesnt
the only way a gene could change someones opinion is if it changed there environment which it looks like the gene they are talking about doesnt
What?
Genes don't give you new opinions just like that, but they determine your thought patterns, what emotions you feel, how you feel them e.t.c, and all that heavily influences your opinions.
And there's no one thing that changes your opinions. There's a whole bunch of factors to it (environment, how you were raised, genes e.t.c) and the article clearly mentioned that.

environment is how you were raised, now like i was saying the gentic difference in us is not much to make most of are brains act that differently and like i said before genes do not say what activates emotion. like how calling someone a name can make one person angry but not another
There is, after all, a liberal gene. But there isn't a conservative gene (Probably).
The absence of a liberal gene causes conservatism... Much like how darkness is the absence of light.
From wikipedia on the D4 dopamine receptor:

Your opinion is just a gene, sorry, you are not unique.
I thought this was already known. Of course the media has to sensationalize every scientific study it comes across. Seriously, the scientists say they found a gene, that affects your thought patterns and emotions, and it might lead you to lean left in the correct environment. Then the media comes along, and say SCIENTISTS FOUND LIBERAL GENE. THIS GENE DETERMINES IF YOU ARE LEFT OR RIGHT.
Scientific studies are the most accurate and precise forms of papers, or research, done. Every word is carefully selected to have the most effective and direct meaning, leaving no room for ambiguity. Then the media does anything just to create views, and not actually report on the facts.
now all we have to do is find the gene that makes you stubborn about your lifestyle and want everyone to be as prude as you are, blindly follow every single word of a book that was written by PEOPLE over 1000 years ago (minus the parts that were about the person you're entire faith is based around because who wants to turn the other cheek when there are gays afoot) and believe that government should enforce your outdated beliefs. Social Conservatives could be a thing of the past, and with both the liberals and conservatives gone America could actually be the Democratic Utopia the founding fathers intended.
It's linked with novelty seeking and political ideology, not a specific political ideology, but can effect the way you think in politics. So you can say its a liberal gene, I can say its a conservative gene.
environment does sometimes determine if a gene will be activated or not so perhaps its the other way around that because your liberal the gene shows up.
All i know from reading the comments in the article is that its making a lot of right leaning people cocky

Yes it is, only because conservatives seem to have no understanding of what a gene is.
I hate how humans are so controlled by stupid chemical and genetic boundaries. I hope science can find a way to give everyone an even chance.

Your consciousness is just a series of chemical reactions, how would people "have a chance" if it weren't for that fact?

Yeah but if we got rid of all stupidity, we wouldn't be human anymore.

What.
Yeah but if we got rid of all stupidity, we wouldn't be human anymore.
I think we'd still be homo sapiens.
The story is bullshit by the way. There is no one gene for things like this. If it is influenced by genetics, there would be multiple genes deciding stuff like this, not just one.

genetics dont play that much into are lives unless its a health problem or something and its not like having better genes gives you a better chance of getting a job. unless its a job that has to do with looks
Why this article was made:
The common person doesn't know how genetics actually work, so the people who spun this just made up a bunch of lies that makes it look like Liberals aren't normal, etc.
First thing I thought of when I heard about this was the supposed homosexual gene.
This article is also, instantly, proven 100% as false, because you can easily find liberal kids in a family full of conservatives, and vice versa.

I'm talking about how genetics can decide whether you will be intelligent or stupid. An introvert or extrovert etc. Its not fair that the way a persons life will span out is down to genetic chance. We should be allowed to control these kind of genes, giving everyone the same chance at a decent life.

Genetics can also control your IQ, so yes genetics can get you a better job.

lets say you are born with more neurons in the brain (which would be an extreme genetic difference) that just means that you can learn to be stupid faster, because you are not born with information you learn it through your environment. a person that has less neurons but learns true things will still be smarter then someone with more but learns untrue things. also introversion and extroversion is also environmental, thats why pretty girls that get more attention will talk more and you can change from extrovert to introvert in your lifetime if something in your environment changes
