also everyone who says we should burn the qur'an are absolutely no better than these protesters
and everyone reenforcing an "us vs. them" mentality is worse

and i'm insulted that you call the freedoms you enjoy political correctness
i invite you to go stay at a country which doesn't have, as you call it, political correctness. you'd be back in a week.
i don't think you even know what political correctness means, all of you just use it as a code word for something none of you understand.
I'm using it in more of a society way than government. I am kinda proud to be living and to be a national of such a free country. I'm proud that when the EDL came to Cambridge, there were 3 times as many counter protesters. But I think there has to kind of be a limit to this kind of thing and that's where we disagree. From my point of view doing this on this day in front of the American embassy should've kind of been stopped, but that's because I have respect for those families who lost someone. I think if they did this on a 7/7 day there would've been a lot more fuss but that's just me.
Political correctness only works in one direction in this country and it kind of annoys me. The fact that if I speak out against these radicals I can get called a racist and a bigot in this country even though it is in no way true and it hurts :v:. I think that freedom of speech should work both ways and me speaking out against this miniture protest should be ~free speech~.
Also protests are defined to days in England. It works on a very safe way, you wanna do a protest kk just inform local areas, let them put up barriers etc.
Given our practices in foreign policy in past and present, I'm not surprised. Why does everyone freak out when they protest? Flags are burned all the time as a demonstration of extreme dissatisfaction and contempt. It is a very powerful gesture that is not calling for the destruction of America, but exhibits instead an incredible hatred of how we are. They want us out of their countries, and I am not surprised. We are an occupying military force which inspires car bombings, mass shootings, mortar attacks, and the death of civilians either due to our actions or their actions against us.
I would want the US out of my country too if I were a civilian living in the war-zone we've created.
didnt we already protest a mosque being built near ground zero
kinda late for that shit dont you think
We burned palestinian flags when Bin Laden died.
[editline]12th September 2011[/editline]
Oh sorry that's right its okay when white people do it
but he was born in saudi arabia and died in pakistan how is palestine even related to anything
Because to the majority of the stupidly patriotic Americans it is all only the middle east. I wouldn't be surprised if Israeli and some Iranian flags were burned in the deep south as well.
but he was born in saudi arabia and died in pakistan how is palestine even related to anything
new yorkers burned pretty much every middle eastern flag they could find.
They burned iraqi flags too.
You know, the country we liberated and is now free and awesome thanks to us.
It's unsustainable.
because you say so?

Flag burning is one of the most patriotic acts a person can do.
what does that even have to do with my post
hurf durf stop posting
I want a angry rating. I hate the double standards in society where every minority seems to be protected by a "it's their beliefs/way of life" bubble. A white christian burning a Koran would be called and uncivilized thug. But no, it's OK because they're a minority.
It's the same with the gypsies (oh sorry am I meant to say "travellers"?) who are being evicted. If they weren't a minority, they would never get the media attention. They are breaking the law and have been given fair warning, now they should get the fuck out and pay taxes.
are you for real
you think people don't do shit like this all time all over the world? amazing ignorance
tl;dr: people circlejerking against Muslims and assuming that radicals make up the entire religion, and that "muslims get special treatment for being a minority" no they fucking don't.
Can someone please give me three examples where Muslims get special treatment as opposed to Christians or other more popular religions? It's amazing how many idiots on facepunch make claims they can't back up.

They don't get special treatment as in extra rights, or protection from laws. It's just somewhat of a social belief amongst many self-righteous people that minorities are the good guys in every battle simply for being minorities, and that's when the double standard begins to be applied.
I'm in no way racist against any particular minorities, but I believe pretty strongly that muslims are amongst the least advanced people in the world, as is any group that still devoutly follows a religion as though we were still living in the 16th century. There's a reason why the developed, leading countries of the world are no longer governed by religion in any way shape or form, and it exists in these countries as more of a form of expression/it's there for the old people who still believe in god.
Muslims, or any other religious minority, are not automatically in the right or wiser than North Americans simply because they follow a religion that seems strange and other-worldly to most Americans. In fact, I'd say it's the exact opposite.
I love how they did it in london and not some where in america because they'ed get their asses beat

well i hate to inform you of this but your strong belief is [SUB]w[/SUB][SUP]r[/SUP][SUB]o[/SUB][SUP]n[/SUP][SUB]g[/SUB]
why come any time someone says "I'm not racist," they're about to say something incredibly racist?

I burn flags on the 4th of July.

I'm not even American and I think this is stupid
I burn flags on the 4th of July.
Come at me, bro.
Why?
Why?
Because I can.
Why?
because hes ~~edgy~~
what better way to celebrate our rights than by exercising them as fully as you can
Because I can.
That's well and good, and I certainly won't stop you, but to me that sounds fairly pointless.

That's why I participate in so many political arguments. I find it keeps the mind stimulated.
