Dude, Valves DLC has always been free. I mean, to me, this is old news.
The only real new thing here is that it will be free on all platforms. Usually Microsoft puts a price on just because they can.

Why people can't understand it? The hats are free(in TF2). They offer you a faster and different way to acquire them, but they are free.

And I guess the hat store means Valve will do everything they can to make us spend more time with Portal 2. Because in the current state you play through SP, you play through coop and maybe check out the developer commentary, but after that there isn't much left to do and it's definitely not worth buying a hat (even more than usually).

Looks like everyone who complained about the lack of advanced chambers and that the chambers were too easy are getting what they want. Looks like Portal 2 is shaping up to be the game of the decade. Until episode 3 releases.
