There's a pretty funny video on Twitter of the police shooting the guy with a taser, realising it's not working, then having to run away. I'd definitely support giving the police real tools.

I understand things in the UK are different, I understand that our cultures are vastly different. I respect that, but I can't stand the thought of seeing innocent people die without some sort of self defense. While I'm sure CPR and tourniquets are useful, they can't save you if the guy decides to end your life.

It isn't a competition to see who can do the most damage to who.

Lets not forget also that its retarded to try to get into a knife fight with an attacker, your best defense is just to run away. The best (legal) defense against a knife I can think of is a long umbrella or something similar. Keep in mind over the last few months Israel has had countless stabbings and I don't recall any times where bystanders with knifes or pepper srapy (which is legal there) stopped an attacker. Instead it's normally a gun or a long object.

Of course, it's a terrifying ordeal, so if people were armed we'd probably see a lot more people panicking and shooting the would-be robber rather than phoning the police. And possessions are worth a lot less than a human life
