Welp, it is obviously too late to change any of it. In my society I would rather have a firearm than not.
So why are you evening discussing this in a UK crime themed thread, if you recognise crime is completely different? I understand topics of guns etc, but you've gone way overboard and then just said "oh it's different in the US"
I concede, I get really into this sort of debates, my apologies for shitting up this thread.

Plenty of people get stabbed by burglars in the UK, it's not just an American thing.
Obviously I'd rather not have guns here since then the burglars have guns, but the main issue is what the fuck does reasonable force even mean? The term is so nebulous it could mean almost anything which is why I don't like it, it'd be better to just let people defend themselves however as long as the person is in the house.

If I were in your society I would rather have a firearm too, and that sucks.

Don't act like the English are much better dude. Seriously, ever nation in existence right now has its fair share of skeletons in its closet.

Well, I myself really enjoy firearms, one of the main reasons I own them is because I enjoy collecting them (mainly Combloc firearms) I absolutely love the history behind them. I also enjoy clay shooting, target shooting, etc. In fact I have a Polish AK47 coming to my local FFL soon, which I can't wait to shoot.
I think it is fun.

No worries lad, I understand wanting to talk about guns in threads like this and it's a good topic to debate especially when it's between the US and the UK. But for a future thread let keep it to just that and not let shit get too heated, and we will all have a better discussion :~)
I think we came to a conclusion to our discussion.
If we lived in america we'd probably want a gun too since everybody has a gun there and the probability for a burglar to kill you are much higher, but since we live elsewhere we have no need for it. And we don't truly understand the american gun issue because we live so far away we have no first hand experience of the situation.

That's the "problem" (for lack of a better word). Guns should not be fun.
How can something that has been designed to kill be fun?

Have you ever shot a gun? It is a fun experience, I like shooting paper targets. Sorry I don't have the same hobby as you.
I also like the history and design of combloc firearms, hence why I collect them.

Man we're fucked I know this. I'm moving away from the UK in 2017 anyway.

Then why try to use it as some sort of morally superior argument in the first place????????

Don't get me wrong I think guns are cool but I don't know the first thing about them, only what I know from ARMA and the like. I'd enjoy becoming a crack shot with a pistol or something but it wouldn't have to be lethal, it'd be too scary hearing about all the accidents. Airsoft would be awesome though

I own airsoft and guns, trust me guns are a WHOLE different feeling from an airsoft gun
It's like telling someone who likes cars to drive on a PC game with a steering wheel instead of driving it in real life.

What are you asking? Should we get back into the argument or something?
Cinnamonbun, no hard feelings by the way.

I've seen the It's Always Sunny episode 'Gun Fever'. I think I can get the jist of the feeling you're describing :v:

I'm legitimately curious as to why you would try to use some moral superiority argument in the first place and then go "nah i know we're fucked".

Because at least we aren't shooting each other. There I said it now before I offend any more Americans let's move on.

Yeah no problem, I myself do get heated in Gun debates since they are a massive part of my life, and literally my favorite hobby.
Do go to a local gentleman's shotgun club and ask to fire one off. Maybe you can get into clay shooting, maybe you'd like it.

I've never been involved in an actual gun debate before :v:
There's a clay pigeon shooting gentleman's club not too far from here. I used to hear the cracks sometimes, but I don't think they were shooting with bullets, just pellets. Is there a difference when it comes to clay pigeon?
-nevermind let's get back on topic-

Nope
Here are some shotgun shells(different types of shotguns shells btw, each carry a different load)

Were likely using the one on the very left which is called birdshot, more pellets = more likely to hit
however for home defense you would want one of the last 2 on the right, there are less pellets, but they are much bigger. Especially the 1 ounce slugs

I think you have kind of a warped perception of the gun community if that's really such a huge concern for you
Gun safety is like the foundation of gun culture, you'll quickly become a pariah if you're too dumb to handle a firearm safely, it's the first thing drilled into a newcomer's head, nothing in the world matters more, I'm pretty sure there are actually entire books written on the subject. Accidents are pretty few and far between

Alright ladies and gentlemen, it's time to play "Who Can Spot The Extremist?"!
The rules are simple, spot the extremist and win the grand prize: A first-class one-way ticket to not-getting-stabbed/shot! Alright, ready? GO!

This is true, I literally have trigger discipline on even TOY guns because that's how ingrained it is.
People will call that shit out if you have bad T.D in front of other gun owners.

Ahahaha, what?
Heyo, listen up buddy, America didn't just pop out of the ground and start massacring natives, it was Britain that brought the whole "13 colonies" thing into existence and smashed the shit out of the Powhatan, Creek and Iroqouis LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG before there was a United States

Yeah well because manifest destiny and the US gov later on just invited the Indians over for a tea and biscuits, right?

I'm sure that the Boer women and children enjoyed being put into camps and starved to death because of the English.

I do the same thing :v: though I think muzzle discipline takes a much higher priority
I don't give a shit if your finger's off the trigger, safety's on, and it's unloaded, point it somewhere safe or put it the fuck down
Yeah well because manifest destiny and the US gov later on just invited the Indians over for a tea and biscuits, right?
The idea that an entire country is "founded on genocide" is just retarded.
I could say the same for Argentina, but I'm not going to, because I'm not going to take some weird moral highground stance that makes no sense.

Yeah that is probably the #1 thing, don't point it at whatever you don't want to destroy, and know what is beyond your target.
How the hell are you supposed to stop nutjobs like this beforehand?
Monitoring Email and web traffic. These guys unaffiliated with groups, but still proclaiming allegiance, are radicalized on the internet. This is why we have things like the NSA
Yeah well because manifest destiny and the US gov later on just invited the Indians over for a tea and biscuits, right?
The vast majority of the Indians (like 90%+) died from disease, not a concerted effort from Europeans to kill them.
