Why on Earth are Republicans interested in space all of a sudden? There's no oil or brown people for them to kill up there.
Only Gingrich I think... Well at least there's something to look forward too if he somehow wins :v:
Why on Earth are Republicans interested in space all of a sudden? There's no oil or brown people for them to kill up there.
The moon has more Helium-3, which you can use in neutron detectors for finding radioactive materials being moved around by terrorists!
If the man wants to go to the moon then I'm not going to stop him. If a republican wins, I'd rather it be a republican that at least seems to have an interest in space.
How about fixing our shit here instead of expanding it over there
Holy fuck, I swear if Obama said the exact same thing everyone would be cheering on him for it... Also, lots of scientists in this thread I see.
It's funny when everything was stable Newt would have been a great choice. US in good standing so we go make a moon colony. He fucking comes along when the country is in shit and "LETS GO TO THE MOON WHILE ARE IN SHIT"
"One of these days Alice, ONE OF THESE DAYS!"
Holy fuck, I swear if Obama said the exact same thing everyone would be cheering on him for it... Also, lots of scientists in this thread I see.
Uhh... no they wouldn't.
Holy fuck, I swear if Obama said the exact same thing everyone would be cheering on him for it... Also, lots of scientists in this thread I see.
Not really. A moon base is just dumb. It's literally impossible to maintain supplies for it.
Holy fuck, I swear if Obama said the exact same thing everyone would be cheering on him for it... Also, lots of scientists in this thread I see.
Expect he didn't. And Gingrich isn't going to get a first term.
that's if he gets a first term
Serious or not, good luck trying.
Well I suppose even a geyser of shit has to spit out something cool at least once in it's existence. I'm fine with moon bases. You get it done, I'll be a first one in the street shouting John Maden.
I want moon orgies, and to be space governor. Shut up and take my money.
I'm surprised no one as pointed out that building something on the moon is rather different that building something on earth due to the massive difference in the gravity of both bodies.
I... I just... In literally every thread where someone suggests cutting the NASA budget everyone is all up in arms over it. Now Gingrich suggests expanding it, and everyone is all up in arms over the exact opposite thing. Nice double-standard facepunch has got going here.
Facepunchers usually say that to say that their country,America wasted too much money on the army
This moon base promise will be forgotten after the Flordia primary is over. Its just empty promises to get votes in that specific state. Hell he got called out on it in the debate last night.
A bit presumptuous by Gingrich to say that he'd have a 2nd term, let alone a 1st.
I'm surprised no one as pointed out that building something on the moon is rather different that building something on earth due to the massive difference in the gravity of both bodies.
how would that change anything... life support would cancel and outweigh out any structural weight that could be saved.

fuck the republicans vermin supreme for president 20000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 0012 except the fact he's a ponyfag [editline]27th January 2012[/editline]
This man preaches the truth, Newt! Don't go to space! That's where they live!
you're doing it wrong
Thread with "moon base" in the title, this won't end well.
Not sure if it's been pointed out yet but he's saying that he wants a moonbase built (or close to being finished) by the end of his second term. Get this FP: building a moonbase takes time. If he sets the wheels in motion in his first term, there will be a moonbase at the end of the next term of presidency regardless of who wins in 2016.
I feel like this guy is getting desperate.
Umm he specifically said by the end of his second term, meaning the end of his second term.
Good point, I'll edit. It still stands though - people here are expecting that if he doesn't win his second term, the whole program will suddenly grind to a halt.
Has this been posted? No? Very well then. http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/thu-january-26-2012/indecision-2012---2012--a-space-oddity Unfortunately I can't embed it.
So he's against big government spending, except for the DoD and NASA? That's what I never understood about republicans.
What would even be the point of having a base on the moon? There's no useful minerals, no life, no suitable soil for farming. Maybe it's to make America's penis look bigger. Isn't that what the space race was all about? Besides, it's not going to happen. Even if he magically fixed our broken ass economy and SOMEHOW fixed the horribly broken political system, all somehow in one term, he would never get the clear to do something this pointless and stupid.

There are some useful elements on the moon. Helium-3 for example is thought to be present in large quantities on the moon, but it's extremely rare on earth, making it 100 times more expensive than gold. It's a possible source of fuel for fusion reactors. http://fti.neep.wisc.edu/research/he3
