EA follows Ubisoft, will sell titles with 'always on' DRM

My favourite feature of buying software is getting punished for owning it.
it was known EA was going to do this for C&C4 for quite a while, why is everyone so surprised? unless everyone just found out EA was planning this.

I understood that it was just for the C&C4 ranking system and since no one played that game it was okay.
it was for the whole game, need me to find the article?
You can play online with a cracked TF2, but the servers must be running your version (and also be cracked) as far as I know.
All games are cracked within a month of release.
there was a really old game that recently got cracked and it was made in the 90s. i forgot what it was called though.
Hey, I just noticed that none of the Big Three are the 'good guys' now. We were all thinking that EA was becoming the goodies and Activision were turning to shit, but now that EA and Ubisoft have done this there's no one to cheer on. Ah well, the indies and medium-sized studios it is then.
I already knew EA was going down the shitter when I got banned from every one of my EA published games because I swore on their forums.
No warning, they claimed it was a ToS violation yet I did NOT get banned from the forums I made the remark on, rather just my games.
Oh, and by the way, before you say I should have read it, the ToS is 28 pages, good luck with all that.

Team fortress 2 did there are 0 cracks that let you play online.
Oh for fuck sakes. I wonder if they'll just end up pulling it like they did to the 3 install limit on spore.
atleast when Ubisoft did this they had a fanbase, I dont think EA realizes how many people actually hate them and want to see their company tank
Just when I was starting to have respect for EA again.
EA games aren't that good anyway.
unless they publish them *and didn't work on them* cause most of those are fine
It'll be cracked a week before release so it doesn't really matter, then again for the people that pay for the game its kind of messed up especially if its a single player game
Jesus fucking christ, this is just plain ridiculous.
Didn't EA have a short spree of doing good before this?
Ubisoft and EA are going through with this because people buy the games regardless. People talk alot about boycotting and what not, but it never happens.
People keep saying PC gaming is dead.
I dont think it is. But if this shit keeps up it very well may be dead soon and it wont be because of piracy. (Or rather, it will be...but in an indirect way but it still wont be the fault of pirates. It will be the fault of publishers/developers)

I haven't bought ACII for the PC - I was going to, but the DRM popped up, so I didn't buy it.
I was going to buy CnC4 before I knew about its DRM, so I didn't buy it.

There are these things called Indie Developers.
There are these things called Indie Developers.
Yeah, but the thing about being indie is that when you're an indie developer you're not very popular. But maybe they can get popular.
If anything is going to save PC game from this downward spiral it's going to be Steam and/or Indie Devs.

Darwinia
Defcon
Audiosurf
Popcap
Torchlight
Those games are good, I have bought them, a lot of people bought them and enjoyed them.
If the goal of DRM is to prevent 0-day piracy, then always-online is effective (so far). The effect on sales probably isn't that bad either.
If you're the crackhead-gamer type who needs any game that sounds good, then this is bad news, but I can choose what to buy and what not to buy. I haven't bought AC2 and I'm not buying this either
The most unsuccessful gaming boycotts are ones that primarily consist of fans of the series or company that's being boycotted, people outside the fanbase are much more likely to carry on with their promises. The people who are angry at these companies aren't really fans but rather just general PC gamers.
How a company that brings in 100s of millions of dollars in profits each year can be so utterly imbecilic is beyond my comprehension.
Haha perfect. Wouldn't surprise me if they were doing this to encourage piracy so at some point in the near future they can say "We no longer wish to publish or develop games for PC due to massive levels of piracy"
EA and Ubisoft can shove a rusty nail up their dicks.
Some people just like to download games to try em then buy. I know I downloaded DOD:S before I bought it, no demos!

You know, it's kind of the fault of internet pirates more than EA and Ubisoft. They aren't the ones violating a just law.
But it doesn't really matter anyway. I've yet to see a game that hasn't been cracked for singleplayer.
i don't get why everyone is bitching about it, i bought ac2 and the DRM has gave me no trouble
Because not everyone has a crystal ethernet line and a golden modem.
