Me, I personally think it has to do with the shareholders and people with the money behind these companies. The shareholders are freaking out because no one is buying the games because they're being pirated and cracked, so EA and Ubisoft have to find some way to appease the shareholders and keep them from backing out. So they develop this DRM as a short-term solution, knowing the games will be pirated [I]even more[/I] as a result, but the people running the company and the shareholders who own shares will be sleep easier.

That's how I think it may be.

i'd like to expand on this by stating that, if your connection is lost while playing in ONLINE mode you will NOT be kicked out of the game unless it's multiplayer in which case, you're pretty :butt: for complaining.
it will even kinda fluently swap into a mild form of offline mode and back when connection is back.
