"Not what heroes would do"? Who are these "heroes" you speak of?
Cops are supposed to be heroes and protect everybody, even the suicidal
Well they can't help people if the person they're supposed to help shoots them. Tough shit.
put one to your head pull the trigger if its so funny then.
Someone's a bit defensive about their carry gun...
possibly children that depend on them and they have to defend themselves
Defending yourself would not entail running around in a disorganised manner in front of an armed man, they didn't even clear the immediate area. Once one of them opened up they all opened up. Regardless of all the conjecture on this thread after watching the video these cops were reckless, any training was wholly forgotten and they reacted with firepower and not with their heads. As others have pointed out earlier I am not saying I would of done it any better but then I am not trained to deal with this kind of situation.
Well they can't help people if the person they're supposed to help shoots them. Tough shit.
He reached for a gun, that shouldnt be an automatic death sentence
its not an automatic death sentence, its the cops preventing some suicidal fuckwad who has nothing to lose shooting some people and then himself
He reached for a gun, that shouldnt be an automatic death sentence
Are you seriously high
I'm half-tempted to dismiss him as a troll at this point.
I usually try to ignore the debates on here but seriously I actually shit myself laughing/crying at this one Disabled or not, he pulled a gun and someone (whether it be police, civilan, or the guy himself) was going to be shot. I love the headline because they try to make it seem like he was unarmed to lure in the people who don't read the article and just "hurr durr tl;dr title gives all details" "the police should have had an ambulance on the scene to save him" Sure, take half an hour to bring in all the required medical personnel and risk having someone shot while we wait around. It was clear he reached for an item, and he was taken care of accordingly. I know someone will respond to this with a "How do they know it was or wasn't a weapon????", but seriously if you're being aimed at by police/military/etc it's a fucking stupid idea to reach into a pocket suddenly. Not sure why this debate exists though
He reached for a gun, that shouldnt be an automatic death sentence
...What? Yes, yes it should. A gun has one purpose and they need to stop the user from acting out on it.
He reached for a gun, that shouldnt be an automatic death sentence
You're seriously either trolling or are the most naive and possibly mentally handicapped person I've ever seen.
Imagine being a cop and encountering a black person, wow that must have been so scary for the cop to be so close to a black person, they had to shoot the man though, he is black. Who knows what a black person can do for damage while in a wheelchair. These babylon tier cops should go to jail.
Just because hes willing to hurt himself and hes armed doesnt mean he should be killed for reaching into his pocket
Yeah the man reaching into his pocket for a gun, the same pocket that a gun was proven to be in, is totally a smart thing to do when the police are telling you to put your hands up. [editline]27th September 2015[/editline]
Cops are supposed to be heroes and protect everybody, even the suicidal
This suicidal dude was reaching into his pocket for a .38 while the cops where pointing guns at him. At which point the best way for the cops to protect everyone was to shoot him until he stopped moving.
He reached for a gun, that shouldnt be an automatic death sentence
what else would you have done
He reached for a gun, that shouldnt be an automatic death sentence
So when are they allowed to shoot? After he points the gun at someone else and pulls the trigger?
The time it took the man in the wheelchair to move, the cops could easily walked up to the guy and arrested him?? He wasn't very quick or agile if you couldn't tell by the video. He was struggling to raise his arm up to even reach his pocket.

Thats totally smart and not at all the stupidest possible choice in this situation. Whats next? "Why didn't the cops shoot the gun out of his hand!!"

Gastyne and Cody the stoner are naive idiots, And wont listen to reason
What reason? The cops could easily defuse the situation without murdering the black man in the wheelchair. But why would they do that, this was a perfect opportunity for them to get rid of another pesky n word, in their minds.
Gastyne and Cody the stoner are naive idiots, And wont listen to reason
Im just of the opinion that cops shouldnt be so trigger happy. The man didnt even display his gun, we dont know for sure if he was even going to take it out. Surely the cops could have exercised better judgement
Someone's a bit defensive about their carry gun...
Not really. I just have friends who don't think you have adequate protection unless you have a fuckin 500 mag. I was merely saying if a 38 is such a defenseless weapon then shoot yourself with one.

Failure to react is what gets innocent people killed. They get very, very short times to react or many more people can die. But why would they do that, this was a perfect opportunity for them to get rid of another pesky n word, in their minds.
Shooting someone with a gun acting in a dangerous manner isn't murder, it's self-defence.
Im just of the opinion that cops shouldnt be so trigger happy. The man didnt even display his gun, we dont know for sure if he was even going to take it out. Surely the cops could have exercised better judgement
I believe cops should only make it formally clear that they WILL kill you if you don't comply as instructed, each time they begin to deal with any citizen under any circumstances. (Unless they draw their gun, then there's barely time to draw one yourself and start firing as they fire into you.) And the officers will kill you if you don't, that much is clear. And this wheelchair man's death didn't even come off as surprising. Not to him, not to anyone. It's just that sometimes, I have found it particularly sad when a seemingly innocent civilian fails to realize the severity of the situation he's in, and then gets shot for driving off for example. (Referring to the case of a black male of my age hitting the pedal when an officer was reaching for the ignition on a routine stop, then gets immediately shot in the head. And the car even drove off uncontrolled with dead driver inside, potentially posing risk to others, until it came to a stop.) [editline]28th September 2015[/editline] Also, I find it peaceful to post while the Americans are sleeping.
No they couldn't. They don't get other choices. "Wait and see" is the stupidest policy when the lives of innocent people are in danger. Failure to react is what gets innocent people killed. They get very, very short times to react or many more people can die.
I keep seeing similar posts and although I am not saying that a man in a wheelchair is not dangerous, in this instance I don't think this man was capable of much, if the officers were actually in his line of fire then they were doing something wrong and were putting themselves at risk. The man doing the filming obviously thought the same as he was only yards from the man in the wheelchair. Sometimes time is the factor as situations can change very quickly, this was not the case here, the police had time and numbers at the scene, it was a contained situation that wasn't going to escalate. Now I appreciate that in countries with a gun culture it is difficult and I don't subscribe to the belief that officers shoot indiscriminately at black people but certain situations require different actions. This situation could definitely have been handled differently on this occasion.
