Bubonic plague? Like, seriously? I thought we got rid of that long ago.
It's always been around. It flares up every once in a while but it's never been as bad as the Black Death epidemic.
So, how likely is it that we can't contain this? I mean, will the old antibiotics still work, or is it possible that this is a new strain that's resistant to that? New Zealand recently discovered a completely antibiotic resistant disease, how far off are we from having an antibiotic-resistant black death?
There are numerous antibiotics that can treat the plague such as...streptomycin and gentamicin as the antibiotics of choice; also there's additional ones such as doxycycline, ciprofloxacin, or chloramphenicol. I guess what I'm saying is that there's a lot of different shit you can use to get rid of this. Also; plague is EASILY destroyed by sunlight and drying and can only survive up to one hour in the air depending on conditions. So all in all, not likely. We know a heck of a lot more about this bacteria than we did hundreds of years ago.

In part due to much better handled hygiene and lack of spread vectors. It can still be quite dangerous, but to get a really nasty pandemic in the western world, you'd probably need something that spreads a lot faster.
http://i.imgur.com/ZwP6Blx.jpg link because page stretch did it happen yet?
gas masks wont save you sir
We can try some medieval remedies. Those guys were experts on the matter, right? Seems legit.
or just take a bath once a day? most places that did barely get affected by the plague would shower and just clean up the dead bodies/rodents.
Last year, Madagascar had 60 deaths from the plague, the world's highest recorded number.
If this has happened in 2012 at a higher number and it hasn't carried over to any other country in the world, does that mean we have nothing to worry about?
NO! not the one safe paradise we have for the apocolypse!
gas masks wont save you sir
what about pneumonic plague?
If this has happened in 2012 at a higher number and it hasn't carried over to any other country in the world, does that mean we have nothing to worry about?
Only a matter of time till it spreads, hoping it doesn't. Hearing about stuff that can easily wipe out a population sucks.
Uh oh
While its still unnerving to see reporting of that diseases no matter how small, I'd be much more scared if we started seeing reports of the pneumonic plague or septicemic plague cropping up. Bubonic was the more iconic and widespread but the other two were much, much deadlier.
Taken from LMAO pics(the person said he found it on reddit).
We can try some medieval remedies. Those guys were experts on the matter, right?
-If a person gets the disease, they must be put to bed. They should be washed with vinegar and rose water. -Roast the shells of newly laid eggs. Ground the roasted shells into a powder. Chop up the leaves and petals of marigold flowers. Put the egg shells and marigolds into a pot of good ale. Add treacle and warm over a fire. The patient should drink this mixture every morning and night. -Place a live hen next to the swelling to draw out the pestilence from the body. To aid recovery you should drink a glass of your own urine twice a day.
Seems legit.
ah shit, that's for the bubonic plague? guess it was a waste of time trying to cure my flu with all that.
the black plague is easy to cure with modern medicine and anyone with the disease will be fine in less than a week after a hospital visit source: i watch House
the black plague is easy to cure with modern medicine and anyone with the disease will be fine in less than a week after a hospital visit source: i watch House
Certain types of Black Plague are deadlier than others such as the respiratory variant which has like close to a 100% mortality rate if treatment isn't started within a day or so. So don't get your hopes up by going to the Hospital ;)
The CDC and MSF better get their act together and go stop it.
The usual symptoms in humans are:[1][7] Abdominal pain Bleeding under skin due to blood clotting problems Bleeding from mouth, nose or rectum Diarrhea Fever Chills Low blood pressure Nausea Organ failure Vomiting Shock Death of tissue (gangrene) causing blackening in extremities, mostly fingers, toes and nose Difficulty breathing However, septicemic plague may cause death before any symptoms occur.
Bubonic Plague is basically bullshit easy to cure with very simple antibiotics. but of course some people will act like it's going to be the dark ages 2 point O and millions will die but the fact is, everyone was fucking filthy and didn't bathe right in those days. that being said, of course, don't laugh if you have it and just ignore it. "Last year, Madagascar had 60 deaths from the plague, the world's highest recorded number." I laughed, what about that entire period were millions died?
Pretty certain that was pre-records. They have rough estimates based on estimates of population before and after, but that's it.

It's spread by fleas and rodents.. It's not air born, chill the fuck out unless you have a flea circus or have rats as pets. Edit: Caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis Essentially a disease of wild rodents, spread by fleas Plague spreads to humans either by the bite of infected fleas or rats Does not spread from person to person Patients develop swollen, tender lymph glands (called buboes) and fever, headache, chills and weakness It is treatable if caught early, but can be lethal
Well it's a good thing it's been cured then.
Misunderstood Madagascar closes ports as to not infect anyone else.
I went into this thread hoping, nay, praying that you guys could last maybe a page without making a fucking Pandemic joke. But no, you lasted 2 fucking posts.

A man coughed in Ireland "Shut. Down. Everything!"
Madagascar closed their borders.
