Can someone tell me what exactly glee is?
Can someone tell me what exactly glee is?
Wow, you mean you haven't heard of it until now? That's impressive. I kind of envy you.
Can someone tell me what exactly glee is?
It's a show on Fox where they group a bunch of stereotypes together and they sing modern pop covers of classic songs and whatever they feel like and add a ton of auto tune and shit to it. Terrible show.
Wow, you mean you haven't heard of it until now? That's impressive. I kind of envy you.
Well, I have heard of it. But the trailers I have seen from it make it sound like some reality show and I hear people going around saying "YOU HERD WHAT HAPPENED ON GLE LAST NITE?" but then they release a bunch of music for people to buy and i'm not really 100% sure what it is at this point.
But then again...when you cover a song don't you usually try to get as close to it as you can?
except Coulton's was the [parody] cover with zero credit to Coulton, they're basically saying that the song in its entirety is their parody
Isn't Jonathan Coulton some indie singer that reddit worships? Did he have proper copyright/licensing of his music?
Isn't Jonathan Coulton some indie singer that reddit worships? Did he have proper copyright/licensing of his music?
When Jonathan Coulton does a cover, he buys a license from the song creator, because he releases them as singles.
When Jonathan Coulton does a cover, he buys a license from the song creator, because he releases them as singles.
But does he copyright HIS songs?
Isn't Jonathan Coulton some indie singer that reddit worships?
Also I believe he got permission from Sir Mixalot for the cover, too
Yeah. To sell it commercially you need that or a license.
Isn't Jonathan Coulton some indie singer that reddit worships? Did he have proper copyright/licensing of his music?
He wrote Still Alive
He wrote Still Alive
Still Alive isn't even the greatest thing he did. He made a song a week for a year. That's just a crazy amount of work.
Still Alive isn't even the greatest thing he did. He made a song a week for a year. That's just a crazy amount of work.
I know, I'm a big fan. Just telling him because he didn't know JoCo and that's a piece he'd probably recognize
Still Alive isn't even the greatest thing he did. He made a song a week for a year. That's just a crazy amount of work.
Thing a Week was a great set of albums also along with his latest release Artificial Heart
But does he copyright HIS songs?
"copyrighting" only makes it easier to prove copyright. As yawman says, it's automatically yours.
Also I believe he got permission from Sir Mixalot for the cover, too
And Glee didn't ask either guy, so balls to them. Here's a laydown of info; -Apparently they did the same thing with, "Girls Just wanna have Fun," but I doubt it was on the same scale of bullshitness. -There is a "karaoke" version of Coulton's cover on his website that they might have been used to make this -Apart from the "Johnny C" reference, there was a duck quack in Coulton's version that sounds like they EQ'd the shit out of, its pretty low. -Coulton's thoughts were once not sure when it first came out, due to a weird unoffical wiki entry (later found out to be derived from his twitter) and asking audiophiles to compare the two tracks. Bit too late, honestly. Overall, they are pretty low stooping to this level.
My Uncle and Aunt love this show, I don't know why. Poor Coulton :/
Wow I forgot how many seasons Glee has.
well GTFO glee, you're stupid
Holy shit there's 4 seasons, I thought all of the characters graduated by now or something.
Holy shit there's 4 seasons, I thought all of the characters graduated by now or something.
I think they did or something. [editline]18th January 2013[/editline] Didn't this show have a character on it that was suddenly revealed to be gay, and he went from perfectly normal to utterly flamboyant?
I think they did or something. [editline]18th January 2013[/editline] Didn't this show have a character on it that was suddenly revealed to be gay, and he went from perfectly normal to utterly flamboyant?
no but there's the gay kid that's super flamboyant and then the gay kid who's actor isn't really gay and is just very fashionable and then there was a gay character who tried to kill himself so yeah
*reads title* Glee didn't need to rip off a Jonathan Coulton to prove that they were cultural menaces. Common knowledge dictates it. But still, that really sucks.
not that I watch the show or anything [editline]18th January 2013[/editline] Goddammit J.
I knew Glee was a garbage show but christ this is low.
there was a gay character who tried to kill himself so yeah
I know I'm going to get rated dumb and all for watching the show and I really don't believe what they did here was good at all, they should have to compensate Jonathan. But the show handled the suicide very well and actually had a very serious message in it throughout the second series about the effects of bullying and how serious it can get at times. Just, what I'm trying to say is.. Not all of Glee is bad, sure it has some really cheesy shit in but some of the singers on the show are extremely talented and some of the writers are actually very good.
Played them at the same exact time, sounded beautiful! Because the Glee version was really just the original played, but louder! Encore! :v: No but seriously, this sucks. My friend actually likes Glee. I should show him this.
I managed to sync the two songs, and the only difference I can hear is it sounds like JoCo remade the song with a bunch of backing vocals. That's literally the only difference
But does he copyright HIS songs?
All his songs are released under the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial license
