they are all terrible songs
My Uncle and Aunt love this show, I don't know why. Poor Coulton :/
My mom started watching it just because of the fact that Glenn Beck got all upset over it, and she kept watching it because all the characters are the type of people republicans hate (or something like that :v: ).
Wow, I can't believe the ego they must have to think they can do this! It's 100 percent copied! Hope Fox's lawyers can't outdo Coulton's :S
A better side by side comparison. Jonathan is the left ear, Glee is the right. EDIT: I didn't make the comparison.
All his songs are released under the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial license
No they aren't. His covers are all licensed directly from the artist.

The Glee people even managed to fuck up their timing with the lyrics. Great job. [editline]19th January 2013[/editline]
No they aren't. Glee Wiki comment Most of the other comments are calling the producers dicks though [editline]19th January 2013[/editline] According to NPR this is not the first time Glee has done this
Now, this is certainly not the first time a Glee cover has sounded a lot like another arrangement. When this came up on Twitter this morning, people in particular brought up Petra Haden's version of "Don't Stop Believin'," a very similar version of which was in the Glee pilot, and Greg Laswell's version of "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun," which is very similar to a version Glee used, and which Laswell complained about.

A better side by side comparison. Jonathan is the left ear, Glee is the right.
That's actually pretty clever.
What a childishly optimistic view on the world. I'd be personally offended as a musician if my cover was completely stolen from me and reproduced without my permission, and to even smash on my integrity even more, they covered an acoustic cover with Autotune.
Glee Wiki comment Most of the other comments are calling the producers dicks though
I've never heard "just saying" follow anything remotely smart ever [editline]18th January 2013[/editline]
Wow. The Glee people even managed to fuck up their timing with the lyrics. Great job.
it's artistic liberty in stalling the lines, it sounds more 'choir'ey with the stretches and delays they add and is fine when not compared directly
Just throwing this in here:
This was a triumph. I'm making a note here. Huge success.
oh hey he's the guy who made that re: your brains song knew his name sounded familiar
Jonathan Coulton is a musical genius! He's most popular for his Portal songs, RE: Your Brains, Code Monkey, The future soon, and his Baby Got Back cover. But his latest album Artificial Heart holds great love in my heart. I know nobody here watches glee but according to youtube comments (not the most reliable source of information in the world but whatever) they mention in the show that this version was arranged by j Jonathan Coulton, which explains at least why they left the line "Johnny C's in trouble" line in it, whatever about the rest of it.

And why would they mention it if they didn't call him about it?

[editline]19th January 2013[/editline] or they need his permission, to be specific.

If I were him, I'd be pretty sore at them and deny their request without a second thought.
Like he'd give it to them. If I were him, I'd be pretty sore at them and deny their request without a second thought.
bah i'd let them use it for a "modest" fee.
Teenybopper is the most obnoxious word I've ever heard in my entire life.

what the fuck is glee?
what the fuck is glee?
Some crappy TV show that's a musical drama that started after the global success of high school musical.
so he's mad that they covered his rendition of a song? nobody gets angry about covers
so he's mad that they covered his rendition of a song? nobody gets angry about covers
But it's looking more like they just took his version verbatim, re-recorded it with a different singer and then used it. Plus they didn't even ask him if it was okay or even credit him aside from leaving "Johnny C" in the lyrics, which is pretty rude regardless of the legality of it all.
so he's mad that they covered his rendition of a song? nobody gets angry about covers
this isn't a cover, this is plagiarism. there was no attribution to the original artist, afaik no licensing fee was paid, nor was permission given. they basically took someone elses(copyrighted and licenses) work and passed it off as their own.
so he's mad that they covered his rendition of a song? nobody gets angry about covers
let's put it this way the "I like big butts" song is the original, and it's kinda old. We'll say this is one of your japanese animes [t]http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20121030195709/dragonball/images/thumb/5/5b/Gokusteppingoutofaspaceship.jpg/250px-Gokusteppingoutofaspaceship.jpg[/t] 6 years ago, Coulton got permission from the owners of the DBZ copyright to do a funny piece of fanart by mixing DBZ with something DBZ would be funny to mix with, Pokemon. He makes little money because he just loves being indie or something and does this stuff for fun. He drew it himself, even though it's clearly based on DBZ, then posted it to his deviant art account. [t]http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs33/i/2008/299/1/1/Pokemon_DBZ__Showdown_by_EiffelArt.jpg[/t] now Glee plans on posting this on their own deviantart page (where they have TONS more followers than Coulton), without asking him his permission to use his rendition of the image. They also have prints enabled in which people can buy the picture, and Glee makes Ad Revenue from everyone who even looks at it. [t]http://i.imgur.com/L76128Q.png[/t] There is zero difference in the linework- if it's not traced super well, it may actually just be a direct screencap, and the cropping has been done so a character is now missing from the background. It's a bit smaller than the original, and the artist signature is nowhere to be found, which is great because they will be making mad bank because they're glee and people eat that shit up without even caring. We've already seen examples of people actually saying Coulton should just feel honored that glee did his song "better", which as an artist is probably the shittiest insult to your talent, aspirations, and genuine hard work.
Are you fucking kidding me?

My source is probably unreliable anyway.
