Problem is even though Dice are fine with it I have a feeling EA are going to be like typical publishers and do a dick move, who knows.
I'm not sure if it's EA progressing or most other developers regressing but they seem rather tame as of late. Sure some of their games have been lackluster but they have been on the "I'm doing horrible things" list a lot less lately.
Battlefield 2142 was one of my favorite games back in high school. I sucked horribly at the game, but I enjoyed every minute of it that I played.
Titan mode was my favourite game mode in any Battlefield game.
Oh sweet! Right before my 3 day weekend too. I'm going to play the shit out of this game. Also Dethklok servers are still there!
So...how are they doing this so they won't be taken down by the time I wake up tomorrow morning?

DICE themselves have commented on the matter, saying that they regard 2142 as abandonware, and that they have nothing against the game being re-worked and re-released for free. They also claim that they wanted the original servers to stay up, trying to convince EA that they could do it using their own resources, but were ignored.

The third paragraph.

DICE said that both BF2 and BF2142 are now considered abandonware, so it's pretty unlikely that it'll get taken down. Besides the BF2 Revive project has been around for a long time so things shouldn't change with 2142 being added to the mix.

Yeah, but DICE doesn't matter. Sure, they're the developer and it's cool they said this was cool but Battlefield and all games are still owned by EA more than they're owned by DICE. Unless EA says this is cool, and I don't see that happened, then I don't see how this is going to be around for long.
I've been looking forward to a 2142 revive for a long time now, I loved that game so damn much.
Watch how EA will shut this down to protect their "intellectual property"

They've been kinda busy restoring their public image to a semi-respectable status. I don't think they're gonna do anything.

If someone is using their IP without the rights to it it doesn't matter that they're trying to "restore their public image", they're going to shut it down. That is just how ownership rights work. You either protect your IP or you give up the rights to hold exclusivity to it.

But like the post you're replying to says, BF2 Revive has been around for a while. Why is that suddenly going to change just because 2142 is there now?
I mean yeah it's EA, but still they're trying their darndest to make up for being voted the shittiest company. It's not like this is Nintendo we're talking about here.
Works pretty damn well I gotta say.
Oh good. I used to play BFBC2 and the BF3 beta back in the day, but I've always wanted to try both this and BF2 - this in particular. Hope EA doesn't take action against it.
That said, EA appears to have been making good strides from who they were in 2012, so I'm cautiously optimistic.

abandonware. this project has all legal rights to exist so long as they don't make a dime off of it. same reason star wars galaxies emulation hasn't been shut down.

I bet nintendo's going to do it instead, and it's not even their IP!
Nintendo's lawyers are evolving
This is pretty damn sweet.
Beware the RDX Hopper. The Air Transport. The Droppod.
By far and away my favourite Battlefield, and contender for my favourite multiplayer FPS. Just did everything gameplay-wise just right bar a few slight fuckups, and the setting is awesome.
I would recommend avoiding servers with friendly fire disabled because of aforementioned RDX hoppers.

That's not how it works.
Is there any chance DICE will make a BF "2143" or something like that? I've been hoping for a second installment for a long time
Probably, eventually. With all the teases in BF4's Final Stand, I was certain that first BF1 teaser was for a new 214#. It'd have looked amazing, but been shit though.

Just played a match of Titan. Man, it's been too long.
hoping for an aussie server or two
Anywhere I can digitally get bf2142 or is eBay/amazon all there is?
jokes on them, my copy still uses GFWL authentication so its still impossible to play
.........wait, shit
i'm not even sure why this game didn't have server hosting built into it, they had a PC version. it irks me to no end that EA is able to consistently make new games worse than games that existed 10 years ago by stripping out features that keep games around and playable

You don't need to buy it. Just get the launcher on the website and it includes a download for the game. It's all 100% free.

You don't need a copy to play, everything including the booster packs are included and will be downloaded on the revival client.

ninja'd
I can't get the game to launch I got both installed (bf2/bf2142) and made an account but when I hit the launch button nothing happens. I even tried installing the direct x files from their site. What else could I have done wrong? There both installed on my second ssd (for games only). My primary drive is a PCI ssd for Windows 10 and stuff like MS word. Punkbuster is installed but it's on my Windows 10 drive I'm confused. Latest OS updates are installed as well.
