hell yea boi
My best memory with this game was doing a loop and smashing my escape pod in to a gunship that had been tailing me, blowing him out of the sky. It's going to be great playing again.
Anyone know how to make the FOV not shit? [editline]24th September 2016[/editline] Wait nvm, widescreen resolutions were reset for me for some reason.
I can't get the game to launch I got both installed (bf2/bf2142) and made an account but when I hit the launch button nothing happens. I even tried installing the direct x files from their site. What else could I have done wrong? There both installed on my second ssd (for games only). My primary drive is a PCI ssd for Windows 10 and stuff like MS word. Punkbuster is installed but it's on my Windows 10 drive I'm confused. Latest OS updates are installed as well.
make sure you have widescreen support on in the launcher settings.
Fucking EA, even when offered with keeping the servers running at no cost for them they still didn't care.
Lot of good that would do when Gamespy was the host.
make sure you have widescreen support on in the launcher settings.
Thanks that worked and somehow it forgot the install locations :)
It's kind of a shame how this is probably the next BF's setting, but the game will suck
Why? New Battlefields are great.
https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1535541
Why? New Battlefields are great.
Nah. They're dogshit compared to 2142.
I loved trying to land on people with the landing pod.
I'd like 1942 version to be honest but this will do.
I'd like 1942 version to be honest but this will do.
EA already has a version on origin that doesn't run on Gamespy servers. They even released it for free a while ago Also I think Titan mode is a lot more fun when everyone has to damage the consoles/core with bullets and their own explosives instead of arming it like an MCOM
That's not how it works.
That is exactly how it works. That is why one time Sony sent a C&D to a laundromat, because if they didn't change the name of it they were going to take legal action against it. They wern't being dicks, that is just how IP ownership works, and they probably at least paid for the guys sign to get replaced. In the realm of video games, that is also why every fan remake project gets shut down, that is why every unofficial spinoff gets yanked, because it's people using IP's without permission and companies need to protect what they own. They're required by law to do so and if they don't then they lose the ability to hold that IP. This is very basic stuff that people just don't seem to know and when something bad happens to the Metroid 2 remake or that fan made Pokemon spin off and people are pissed about it they don't realize companies are protecting their assets by law. Now, I'm not sitting here going "THESE GUYS ARE DOING SOMETHING WRONG!" or hoping it gets taken down but I'm just wondering why this is going to be allowed to stick around. Even if it is "abandonware" EA is still the owning company of the Battlefield IP and it's still an obviously active series. But if these guys have also been doing the same thing with Battlefield 2 then...well, whatever. Neat. Not like I'm not gonna stop anyone from playing it. God I hope they make a modern 2142 at some point. I don't even like Battlefield anymore and I'd buy it.
DICE isn't stupid, they probably talked to EA to make sure it was okay to say it was abandonware before they'd publicly say something like that.
Just played for five hours. Still fun.
https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1535541 Nah. They're dogshit compared to 2142.
you can have your favorite and there's nothing wrong with that but just saying the new ones are 'dogshit' is dumb
You don't need to buy it. Just get the launcher on the website and it includes a download for the game. It's all 100% free.
get the fuck out of here, that's fucking awesome. can't think of a better birthday present. wait a second, this includes bf2 too? oh shiiiit
https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1535541 Nah. They're dogshit compared to 2142.
Nah I think BF4 is pretty great but that's just ~my opinion~
I'd give it til at least a week after BF1 release before they decide, if they decide, to CD it, because they would be INCREDIBLY stupid to shut it down with this much interest.
Never got to play this beyond the demo since my PC was so shit. Felt like I missed out on something good. Maybe time to try this thing.
so are people actually using the command hierarchy or is everyone ignoring that and getting nothing done like the old days
Played it for 4 hours straight, I am truly in bliss. Assaulting titans is so much fun Bad thing is that EU servers aren't actually ranked, so no way of getting levels and unlocks atm.
I think many people here don't get that the game counts as abandon ware. EA has little to none legal grounds to C&D this project unless they make money off it.
I think many people here don't get that the game counts as abandon ware. I'm not holding my breath or anything, but it'd be cool to have that too.
Battlefield 2142 is about to turn 10 years old
I always feel so old when i read stuff like that about the games i used to like in school. Like, F.E.A.R is 11 years old, and HL2 is even older. Just think how big that period is. It's almost half of the time i've spent in this goddamn world.
I think many people here don't get that the game counts as abandon ware. Especially in the U.S. - AFAIK it's the copyright holder that has to formally declare abandonment for it to be considered fair game, which is EA I think

This is fantastic news. What about player progression ? Unlocks and everything works like the olden days ?
Of all the games I've played, none have beaten the experience of bf 2142. The airplane control where great and felt right. A few mins practice and you can dogfight even the best players. I still remember the grenade-spam at Fall of Berlin, or the adrenaline going in with your squad at Port Bavaria. Sadly, the graphics are outdated and I hope the modding community can update them to the new standard.

First off there's no such thing as "IP ownership" in law, it's either copyright or trademarking. Copyright is something you have automatically when you create something, it can not be taken away unless you explicitly sign it over to another party or the required time for it to become public domain has elapsed. You can not lose copyright by having other people illegally copy your work. Trademarking is entirely about brand recognition, it pertains to words, phrases, and logos, and that must be actively used to be maintained. It is to prevent people trademarking common phrases and words and sitting on them to sue people.
Wow this is amazing that i will have the chance to play it again last time i remember when playing it i was young and didn't have the money to buy the full version so i played the hell out of the demo this is great
