Can never forget the 2142 beta where the pod wasn't patched and you could fly around for so long and even pod from Conquest point to another. Shit was cash
Unfortunately it just crashes on startup for me. I tried to look on the forums for help but there's nothing there :ohno:
EU servers are lagging like crazy. I keep warping around.
website down. can't download the launcher. fml
Whether you think BF2142 is better or worse than the modern games, the Titan Assault mode is probably the most fun mode in the whole series.
Just played some, was pretty great to be back. Started playing recon a lot and got my zoomie scope
glasses couldnt be more rose tinted
classic bfs are great but the new ones are better in many ways (as well as worse in some)
But what if the parts they indeed fucked up in the new ones really REALLY strokes you the wrong way? then it ain't wrong to say EA/Dice dropped the ball.

If I were playing for the nostalgia trip, I'd have quit a long time ago. If you took 2142's everything, transplanted it into Frostbite, and fixed stupid shit like RDX hopping, you'd have a game 20x better than 3/hardline/4/1 (~in my opinion~)
I played a match today and the hit detection seemed way off
I think when I bought it, i was too late to the fun :(

Nah. They're dogshit compared to 2142.
nah man, nah.
Cant get the launcher to work on Win10 :<
Game runs like ass in terms of netcode... just as I remember it.

There's a specific knack to manually compensate for hit detection - "Leading the lead": All bullets are projectiles, but the hitboxes seem to lag behind the models depending on ping. Basically the idea is, you know where to shoot to have your bullet intersect their model, but to hit the hitbox you have to lead a bit further, again depending on ping (And distance). I just see it as an additional layer of challenge to be honest.
Connecting from Australia probably doesn't help either, my condolences.
That is exactly how it works. That is why one time Sony sent a C&D to a laundromat, because if they didn't change the name of it they were going to take legal action against it. They wern't being dicks, that is just how IP ownership works, and they probably at least paid for the guys sign to get replaced. In the realm of video games, that is also why every fan remake project gets shut down, that is why every unofficial spinoff gets yanked, because it's people using IP's without permission and companies need to protect what they own. They're required by law to do so and if they don't then they lose the ability to hold that IP. This is very basic stuff that people just don't seem to know and when something bad happens to the Metroid 2 remake or that fan made Pokemon spin off and people are pissed about it they don't realize companies are protecting their assets by law.
Now, I'm not sitting here going "THESE GUYS ARE DOING SOMETHING WRONG!" or hoping it gets taken down but I'm just wondering why this is going to be allowed to stick around. Even if it is "abandonware" EA is still the owning company of the Battlefield IP and it's still an obviously active series. But if these guys have also been doing the same thing with Battlefield 2 then...well, whatever. Neat. Not like I'm not gonna stop anyone from playing it.
God I hope they make a modern 2142 at some point. I don't even like Battlefield anymore and I'd buy it.
actually this has been rebuked by IP experts before, there is no legal requirement to defend one's trademark like this. it is patent law that has such a requirement.
No, that isn't how it works. First off there's no such thing as "IP ownership" in law, it's either copyright or trademarking.
Copyright is something you have automatically when you create something, it can not be taken away unless you explicitly sign it over to another party or the required time for it to become public domain has elapsed. You can not lose copyright by having other people illegally copy your work.
Trademarking is entirely about brand recognition, it pertains to words, phrases, and logos, and that must be actively used to be maintained. It is to prevent people trademarking common phrases and words and sitting on them to sue people.
Then it's copyright protection. It doesn't change what I'm talking about though.
Well I know what I'll be playing tonight.
Finally I have a chance to play this online.
I never played this back in the day but the janky movement is really bumming me out. You walk like you're on ice and you keep getting snagged and caught on level geometry.
If EA/DICE decide to change their mind, I will be happy to shut it all down and open-source the technology behind the game's login and master server list. It's not like I'm making any pocket change off this project... Although if this was my job I'd be pretty content with life.
Also if you turn off Camera Sway in the Options menu of the game, it immediately feels ten-times smoother.
So do you initially not get access to any of the other weapons/tools/grenades/etc?
So do you initially not get access to any of the other weapons/tools/grenades/etc?
Some servers let you get tier 1 unlocks as soon as you enter, but everything does need to be unlocked through leveling.
Well, so far I only have one problem with this;

Aaaaaa I hope this stays up long enough for me to try it when I get back home. 2142 was bloody brilliant and I'd been holding out hope that BF1 would've been a sequel.
If EA try to bring this down I hope the community collectively wedges its foot up their CEO's arse.

I'd refund my fucking bf1 again if they pull this shit. I assume if it does get taken down it'll be after BF1 release, because they will lose shitloads of money otherwise.
Keeps freezing randomly now, no idea why it started happening.

They've been doing the same thing with BF2 for a while now, so it should be pretty safe for the time being
is there a way to make it 1920*1080?

We didn't expect so many players! More are coming up worldwide...
Hell, I didn't expect the news to even make it to Facepunch.
