Great work lads, absolutely great work. I've never played Battlefield 2142 but I'm enjoying it so far (even if it is a much more difficult game).

Honestly, you have my deepest thanks - I have nostalgic memories of watching my uncle play 2142 and then later playing it myself when I finally got a decent PC.
When can we expect the server files to be released?
I'd like to host it on my server in Australia
aaah i had forgotten how GOOOOD the default EU rifle and lmg sound
dakka incarnate
hoping for an aussie server or two
Your wish has been granted, there's at least one Aus server going up ~soon~

There seems to have been a limited release of it to specific server owners. Get in contact with the devs through discord or something

Just saw they released the 2142 Unranked files. I've got a test server up.

There's also an official Battlelog.co server up now too in Aus! Awesome!
Downloading ! Woot
Getting 2142 to work was weird but once it launched on its own the old way, the new launcher did everything it needs to.
It's so good with this back. Been having a blast (and even saw a few of you online.)
I dunno why but so many players cannot play recon, like at all. Headshots are pretty hard to land because of the really annoying sway they have with EVERY gun. But 95% of the player base is beyond bad with recon to the point I've topped being the best player in recon on 3 different servers within the past 2 hours.
Well, so far I only have one problem with this;

They haven't released server files for BF2142 yet, so that explains that.
So those servers are hosted by people affiliated by those related to the revival project.
The server files for BF2142 have been released, an hour or so after I posted that picture in fact.
So yeah, servers galore!
Lot of good that would do when Gamespy was the host.
Someone needs to bring that service back up for legacy purposes. Too much stuff got shut down when Gamespy went.
At the very least, it would mean we'd get Nintendo WFC servers back, too, which means online would get turned back on for all those Wii and DS games (especially since many of them are still offered on VC.)
God I hope they make a modern 2142 at some point. I don't even like Battlefield anymore and I'd buy it.
PlanetSide 2 is probably as close as you're gonna get to that, considering how much the game took up Battlefield's gameplay style compared to its predecessor, which was more Deus Ex-like. Going from BFBC2 to PS2 was pretty seamless for me.
Servers crash
Nah. They're dogshit compared to 2142.
Good thing we're not comparing it to 2142 (which imo was pretty meh the one time I played it before it died) and are saying that the new Battlefields are good on their own.
Haven't played this game before, but I got it today and it's super fun.
I keep getting random lag spikes for no reason. This is the only game that seems to do it. Anyone know of a fix?
Has anyone been able to get this working in a borderless window? BorderlessGaming works, but causes all the UI to be misaligned.
I keep getting random lag spikes for no reason. This is the only game that seems to do it. Anyone know of a fix?
Framerate lag? It might be because some servers have titan movement enabled, dunno because I haven't had a chance to play yet but IIRC titan movement usually got disabled because it caused dead bodies to glitch through the floor, allow people to glitch into crates and could cause lag for some players.
Then it's copyright protection. It doesn't change what I'm talking about though.
yeah it does, there is no requirement for them to shut it down - they're within their rights, but there is no obligation
as sableye has already said, this has already been debunked
Online's acting a bit funky for me, but it plays fine.
Then it's copyright protection. It doesn't change what I'm talking about though.
Trademark becomes genericized if it's not protected, that's why big companies send C&Ds to people using their identifiable brand. If the name 'Metroid' is allowed to be applied to any side-scrolling adventure game and people make their own 'Metroid' games that have nothing to do with the Metroid franchise, then the term 'Metroid' would no longer be usable as a protected trademark and anyone could make their own 'Metroid' game.
Copyright, on the other hand, protects the actual code and assets of a game project. 2142 Revive would be infringing on copyright, except that it's being done with permission from the copyright holder, as DICE considers 2142 abandonware.
Technically the game is infringing on trademark by continuing to use the 'Battlefield' brand, but as long as DICE provides specific permission for this project and doesn't extend it to original projects or derivative works, they can still protect it. It also helps that 2142 is originally a DICE product, because it conveys ownership of the brand, regardless of who is managing the assets.
So in short, no, there's no issue here. As long as it has DICE's blessing, it can continue. Note that if you got some friends together to make another, new Battlefield game using the Battlefield name and gameplay, you would likely get C&D'd long before hitting the market, because DICE certainly will not let other people profit from and genericize their IP just because they're allowing a fan resurrection of one of their old games.
uhh I might try this, I loved BF 2142 and Titan mode.
