best of luck to him. ive been using AdBlock for years.
Awful. If AdBlock starts to accumulate more users and more Ads are blocked, we could start to see a lot of great stuff vanish because they rely on the ad revenue. This will destroy more than it will create in my opinion.

My hope is that, eventually, the adoption of ABP will force advertises to use unobtrusive advertising, eventually creating an environment where we won't really need to have adblockers anymore.
Adblock Plus has a paid whitelist where advertisers can come and pay to not be blocked. Google is one of them.
Well this is a pretty huge threat to their income. The idea of an ad-free internet is terrible anyways. How do you pay for everything?
I unblock all trustworthy sites in need of revenue and only keep adblock on for a little extra security.

The only problem is that there's usually never such a thing as trustworthy; sometimes otherwise trustworthy sites get compromised via their advertisements. Even if you know a site would never intentionally try to infect you, which could be absolutely true, they can't be trusted because sometimes bad things happen regardless.
I pretty much try my best to whitelist every site I go to regularly that has unobtrusive ads. Usually these sites deserve the revenue.

But if a large amount of users began using adblock, that could seriously hurt a small website's life blood supply all for protection from a petty hypothetical virus that is unlikely to infect your computer and most of the time relatively easy to get rid of
I talk to my friends, all of them just get adblock so they can skip the ad at the beginning of youtube videos and deprive the authors of revenue they would otherwise be getting
If adblock is going to do this then they really need to get their shit together in terms of allowing you to see adverts if you want to do it to support content creators. I can't unblock Twitch or Youtube without it automatically reblocking them a few days later and I can't allow certain ads through and I can't tell it to only block, say, video adverts. It's all or nothing and it's annoying as shit. Quite honestly I don't support this campaign at all but if they're going to insist they need to "spread the word" by asking people to give them money then they'd better improve their fucking software.

Just out of curiosity, does AdBlock (not the plus one) block Google and Youtube ads? I'm using it now and I can't really remember seeing them, but I'm not sure.
somebody needs to get the $1337 reward and have their extension replace all advertisements with that cat

i never get ads on youtube videos and i use adblock. i forget that it does block youtube ads and i get annoyed when ads pop up when i'm watching a video on another computer
[editline]29th August 2013[/editline]
the youtube ad block is 80% why i use adblock

It blocks them, even the ones before the video.
Also for those who use AdBlock plus and want Youtube ads blocked you can use http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/114002 (YouTube Center) which I found out about recently and it supposedly blocks ads in youtube and in the video player.

perhaps that great stuff could use not incredibly annoying advertisements and then it won't vanish
30 seconds to watch a 1 minute youtube video is not acceptable

Strange, because I haven't been seeing any.
Personally I prefer Adblock Plus because that's a big open sourced project whereas AdBlock is just one guy, and Adblock Plus has this:

whereas AdBlock doesn't AFAIK. I don't hate ads, I just hate giant flash ads that try to get drive-by virus downloads on me.
[editline]29th August 2013[/editline]
How many ads would an AdBlock block if an AdBlock could block ads?
I you really want to filter ads to your preferences use Ghostery and block the annoying ones on a case-by-case basis.
That way you can
- block all the trackers and social plugins you don't want to use
- get unintrusive ads where the company didn't pay Adblock Plus
Also for those who use AdBlock plus and want Youtube ads blocked you can use http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/114002 (YouTube Center) which I found out about recently and it supposedly blocks ads in youtube and in the video player.
I've had adblock plus installed for quite a long time and despite the google paying ABP thing I haven't ever seen one youtube ad on my computer since I installed it.
I've had to reinstall it due to a reformat and it stopped blocking youtube ads. I can add stuff like video recommend ads real easy but I can't figure out how to block in video ads.
The fact that so many people support this shit is scary. The "ads are unsafe" excuse is just complete bullshit, google ads, which most ads are, are always 100% safe. The only possibly unsafe ads that I can think of would be the ones on torrent sites, download sites or porn sites and there's noscript for that
Strange, because I haven't been seeing any.
if major companies start paying to whitelist themselves another extension will pop up to re-block them so what's even the point

Guess the supporters should just start paying to use the websites then.
They would probably get a different attitude towards it

doesn't the creator of adblock reckon all sites should run either off subscriptions or donations?
yeah right lol

For what it's worth I don't enable ad blockers on Android because I doubt I'll get a virus so easily through there as long as I avoid the sketchy apps.

And don't pretend that this is only porn sites either. It's happened recently to very big websites. Granted that this case is only trying to trick people instead of an actual drive-by download, it's still fucked up and it still could happen. And that worries me.
Operas built in adblock works really well.
Although surely adblock plus works better.

Whats so bad about content producers being a little selfish? You can't eat your consumers happiness.

Putting any degree of trust in ads is just doing a disservice to yourself. Even services previously thought safe (you have no idea what you're getting into when visiting a website for the first time) can be easily compromised.
They're one of the primary vectors for malware short of downloading and running "bangbros.exe"
I honestly don't care about supporting a website if it's willing to subject me and my computer to possible harm just to get by.
I can maybe see risking google ads but with shit like
Adblock Plus exists to save its users from annoying ads. However, we don't think that all ads are bad, and we are fully aware that website owners need them to survive. Therefore, we have established strict criteria to identify Acceptable Ads: unobtrusive ones that don't need to be blocked. Websites that are willing to comply with these criteria can apply to have their ads added to the Acceptable Ads exception list, which will unblock them for most users. Note that if you don't want to see any ads, you will always be able to opt out of this
Note that we will never whitelist any ads that don't meet these criteria. There is no way to buy a spot in the whitelist. Also note that whitelisting is free for small- and medium-sized websites.
The only ads allowed are confirmed to be not annoying, individuals can get whitelisted for free, only large advertisers have to pay, and it's an optional feature you can switch off
