• Active Shooter in California, 20 Victims So Far

It's useless to argue about what gun control methods work and those that dont, for a few reasons. People here are so entrenched in their own views that they think the entire country should be subject to the same gun laws. Secondly people here also will argue the same facile arguments time after time. Thirdly, it's not going to change anything, at this point America is so entrenched in having guns that any movement to take them away or control them is seen as a tyrannical government action. Shootings like this happen so often that I find it hard to even care about it anymore. It's every other week, every other day in America. I live literally less than 15 minutes away, but it's happened so often that I really don't even care that it was so close to home, and that's sad, because I know a lot of people who feel the same way.
13:55 Description update: White male in gray long sleeve, tan pants on railroad tracks near crime scene. /u/themuleskinner

In 2012 a man shot 20 young children to death in a school with a legal semiautomatic rifle and we as a nation were too cowed into submission by the gun lobby to enact any meaningful reform. They've won and this is the future they've built for us. I hope everyone is happy.
Oh screw off, it wasn't even his gun, it was his mothers. Not to mention, California has strict gun laws, so did paris, didn't seem to help much did it? I am not giving up my guns, I will fight tooth and nail for me and my fellow citizens right to own a firearm. ON TOPIC: I wonder what the motives of the shooter(s) were, seemed like it was 2-3 of them, so it was definitely not a "lone" wolf type of attack. Any other info?

Three shooters confirmed by Sheriff's department. Fuck. https://twitter.com/sbcountysheriff
I thought a mayor point of guns being readily available was for Americans to defends themselves from attacks like this?
I thought a mayor point of guns being readily available was for Americans to defends themselves from attacks like this?
No, it's to fight against the government if needed
This is exactly what I am saying. Mass incarceration is also a incredibly awful issue and prison reform is something that needs to happen in america. That said, that comment felt like the equivalent of saying I can't care about homelessnes because thousands of people are starving in north korea.
Criminologists see the actual numbers for these things. They are professionals in the field, literally the only ones qualified to be making decisions about crime, and we ignore them in favor of a never ending stream of new legislation to put people in prison. In turn this creates an ever expanding problem of prisoner re-entry, which in turn overloads systems and creates further crime. All this gets ignored, despite ruining millions of lives annually. Meanwhile, mass shootings, which are statistically insignificant, get all the press coverage and people clamoring for what? More legislation that is going to put more people in prison. When the real problem is the volume of people you put in prison, this is of some concern.
I thought a mayor point of guns being readily available was for Americans to defends themselves from attacks like this?
Hospital workers at a party are not exactly the demographic for people who concealed carry firearms.
I thought a mayor point of guns being readily available was for Americans to defends themselves from attacks like this?
Just going to say this, and only this, defend our selves from the government or when they can't help, not where we have trained professionals helping, like now.
It's in California. They don't have guns readily available at all (in terms of being able to carry). In fact they regularly go through and ban things based purely on how "scary" they look.
You honestly don't know anything about how prevalent in riverside or San Bernardino county guns, both open and concealed carrys are. Your point is farther muted considering that this was an attack on a medical facility.
It's in California. They don't have guns readily available at all (in terms of being able to carry). California is one of the worst states to live in if you support the 2nd Amendment, literally have banned weapons because of the way they look. Also, California has shitty open and concealed carry laws. It's obvious gun control will not work in the Americas, if someone wants to kill someone, they will find a way, whether it be a bomb, an ILLEGAL gun, a knife, etc (see Oklahoma Bombings) It also perplexes me that some of your guys answers to this problem is to have MORE gun control, it is obvious that is doing jack shit for us.
"Can you tell us what weapons they were using?" Oh boy here we fucking go.
Three shooters confirmed by Sheriff's department. Fuck. https://twitter.com/sbcountysheriff
Holy shit, this is really bad. It's never multiple shooters like ever.
Depends on the hospital mate.
To my knowledge firearms aren't even allowed in a hospital. ESPECIALLY the kind of hospital this apparently was
they found a vehicle on the golf course with multiple weapons in it.
To my knowledge firearms aren't even allowed in a hospital. ESPECIALLY the kind of hospital this apparently was
This is correct.
Sheriff stated that the initial scene is the only scene that is currently under investigation. No other chatter should be necessarily construed to be with the shooting across from the golf course.
wow get over yourself that's a totally reasonable question to ask upwards of 14 dead and 8/10 facepunchers in this thread jump to "but muh guns" it's not the namby pamby liberal anti-gun crowd that jumps the shark
The police already stated that the weapons were AK platform. It's a waste of a question

I hope to god their reply is "one that's already illegal"
The police already stated that the weapons were AK platform. It's a waste of a question
No, they said long barreled. AK variant was not specified.
Watching this police questioning live. This is pretty bad, either these cops DO know a lot and are purposely pretending right now they know absolutely nothing at all to throw off the criminals who are probably going to watch this. Or they genuinely dont have any clue about anything, and sadly I think its the latter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mq5hrUDoYo
I really hope it isn't an "islamic" group. Middle-easterners already get enough shit in this country.
Why are people hoping it's a certain group or not wtf both are equally bad Some US citizens = we have deep shit in here and we need to address the mental and social well being of citizens better and why they choose to turn on fellow citizens ISIS (or ect)= we have a large, organized extremist group who is capable of brainwashing and coordinated attacks from overseas Who gives a rat ass what group gets generalized, we need to stop the problem no matter what
