But you have to admit that after the hype is vanquished, if it comes back, it comes back more powerful than before.
After a while it dies completely
tbh it's partly on the fault of the consumer for getting hyped about a product that isn't out yet you should only get hyped when you have a chance to actually buy and use the finished product. Watching videos is one thing, but don't worry until you know it's actually out.
If short term hype is the only thing keeping VR alive then VR will die pretty quickly anyway.
So i'm guessing that the first versions of VR are going to be expensive much like how Tesla does it, first create a luxury product and later on you tone it down as the technology also gets cheaper.
While a nice feature, it's not really the big thing I was expecting. Guess it all just depends on price now. If the Vive is less expensive than the Oculus, then I'll probably go for it, and vice versa. I do like the finger tracking tech on the Oculus though. Wish the Vive had that.

Of course there is the matter of it being an entirely separate peripheral (with added cost) so take that as you will.
what the fuck? no it's not. oculus said they would release it 'this year', three years in a row
and no one should have believed them because this kind of tech is brand new and hard to make and it was pretty clear to mildly tech savvy(and I stress mildly) people like myself that this was years down the road when they launched and it still seemed years down the road when Facebook bought them out. To me at least, it always seemed obvious this was a farther down the line kind of technology.

Well you did get DK and DK2. Not the consumer version we were promised but it was always something. Thing is the R&D progress was going faster and strong competition started surfacing neither wanting to release an obsolete product. A VR cold war if you will.

Yeah, sure, I agree, they should have said "No not this year" every year and then had to struggle massively with getting attention back. Or not. Or you know business when it comes to emerging markets like this are VERY fucking hard to understand, live in, and do business in because of the massive risk that lives around every corner.
what the fuck? no it's not. oculus said they would release it 'this year', three years in a row
I said partly, and finished product, as in actually finished and released and done with. Oculus shouldn't say what isn't true obviously, that's pretty shitty PR no matter how it's sliced, but consumers should know to be smart. this is why early access is the most genius idea and biggest failure on steam, it can result in a better product but usually just ends up screwing people over who end up trusting it far too much and treat it like a finished product. Oculus so far looks pretty successful "Early access" style product, everyone knew it wasn't finished and helped fund it, and we (hopefully) in the end get something amazing and worth it. that being said again yeah, false alarm announcents are super shitty to do and should always be avoided, that'll harm it a lot.
