As much as I agree with what you say, I doubt iOS is going to die anytime soon.
But it is. Nokia partners Microsoft and Android is leading market shares.
Apple is that big because they alome own IOS while the other smartphone OSs are split between many manufacturers.
the xoom ahaha what an embarrassment. tarnished the word tablet forever
Uh what? The Xoom is a really nice device. More than what can be said about the iPad 2.
I'm kinda guilty of having bought an iPhone, but come on, there's no competition. iPhone is better than most of the Android phones, and it looks cool too. I don't regret buying it.
I'd prefer my 4inch qHD screen with a dual-core processor/USB functionality out of the box/HDMI support and a keyboard over my shitty iPhone that I used for less than a week, hated every second of it. Also even the aesthetic appeal isn't there for me, I'd prefer the look of my Droid 3 over the iPhone.
You forgot Logic, which is one of the good Mac-exclusive programs.
How I see it, is that if Apple would drop the prices, people would loose one of the biggest arguments against buying a Mac.
People complaining that the hardware is old, need to know that the OS is "tailored" to work with those components, to make it as stable and safe as possible.
I have viruses, my harddrive is full and my processor is probably broken. My computer crashes once per month tops. I never lose data since I save a lot, and Ableton has auto backup.
Yeah.
guys guys guys stop fighting.
Your average end user is computer illiterate and values overly easy computers over efficiency and app support. Your average person just web browses too, so their only used apps are Safari as well as MS Office and iTunes.
The for them they should get a 200$ laptop. Not some 2000$ mac thing.

Android jumped from 3.9% in Q4 2009 to 33% in Q4 2010, where iOS DROPPED from 19.9% in Q4 2009 to 16% in Q4 2010.
With Android's growth as fast as it is and iOS being limited to not only one platform, but a strangled platform at that, they WILL die.
