Add in the Iranian flag too, because they are in the same boat.

How are they not? They both are theocracies notorius due to human rights abuses (Iran has the crackdown on protestors and Israel has their occupation of Palestine.)
I'm okay with Iran having nukes. More power to them.
But it's not okay to hide them from other countries, nor is it okay for any country to do so. Especially Iran, however, with the way things have been going.
"We possess several hundred atomic warheads and rockets and can launch them at targets in all directions, perhaps even at Rome. Most European capitals are targets for our air force. Let me quote General Moshe Dayan: 'Israel must be like a mad dog, too dangerous to bother.' I consider it all hopeless at this point. We shall have to try to prevent things from coming to that, if at all possible. Our armed forces, however, are not the thirtieth strongest in the world, but rather the second or third. We have the capability to take the world down with us. And I can assure you that that will happen before Israel goes under.
most iranian professors don't go out and say this shit, for example

the difference is that Israel does have nuclear weapons and has been more than willing to engage in war compared to iran

Im not disagreeing that Israel has been overly agressive. I think Israel is making war inevitable with killing Iranian citizens and the continued occupation of Palestine. I do not have very much respect for either country as far as government is concerned.

MAD = Peace. There would have been WW3 already without them.
MAD does not equal peace in the long run. It may have stopped WW3 from happening then, but it amounts to sitting on a throne of bayoents. The world will never be safe with nuclear weapons still around.
Yes it will, if you have nukes nobody will invade your country.
MAD = Peace. There would have been WW3 already without them.
Oh my god I don't need an 8th grade history lesson that tactic barely worked the first time and it wasn't between two theocracies.
Reading through this, I'm pretty sure this was a letter from Obama specifically saying "Hey guys, just know that I don't want to do this, I can't control congress and they're the ones who did it." about the sanctions. If it's confusing for us, imagine how confusing it is for the Iranians to get these mixed messages. One of our parties is suggesting calmly and reasonably that we firebomb those dirty mooslaym fucksticks to hayuhl (yee-haw), while the President is apologizing for the sanctions and saying he's ok with their nuclear program.

You are joking, right?
[editline]22nd January 2012[/editline]
I mean Iran has only been supporting a war of terror against Israel for what, 30 years?
MAD = Peace. There would have been WW3 already without them.
MAD is NOT a guarantee that the world won't be blown to irradiated dust.
The Cuban Missile Crisis is the closest thing we've ever come to complete annihilation, and do you know why we're all still sitting here able to chat away about it on our computers? Because of the intelligent decision of a single man, an officer by the name of Vasili Alexandrovich Arkhipov. He and his commander, Captain Valentin Grigorievitch Savitsky, had orders to fire upon any American vessels with nuclear-tipped torpedoes. He and his fellow officers were authorized to fire the torpedoes if they came to a unanimous decision. Arkhipov eventually managed to convince Savitsky to surface, despite the fact that the captain had believed the war had already begun.
This single officer, a man born to a peasant family near Moscow, just barely prevented WWIII from happening. He barely prevented our parents and our grandparents from being wiped clean off the face of the planet.
They had orders to fire. They disobeyed. What is this proof of?

MAD DOES NOT WORK AS A DETERRENT

That Arkhipov dude sounds like a pussy. Who passes up the chance to extinguish the human race?
I'll tell ya who. A pussy.

The interview with him is ridiculously interesting. He talks about getting up onto the top of the submarine and raising the colors, and the reaction of his crew to being surrounded by American sub-hunters and destroyers.

And Israel has been supporting terror for longer.
First of all, there is no evidence that they are trying to make nuclear weaponry. Second of all, more nuclear weaponry is bad, under any circumstances. It doesn't matter who it is, nobody should have nuclear weapons. Third, the only reason the U.S. has become so involved with Iran recently is because of their growing interest in nuclear energy, which has the U.S. scared.
I wasn't implying that they do have nuclear weapons, apologies for any ambiguity. My point was that people are so scared that Iran might be developing nuclear weapons that they're piling pressure on them, which in turn is making them feel threatened and so is increasing the risk of them developing nuclear weapons in the future in order to defend themselves.
If we just left Iran the fuck alone things would be so much simpler.
What? This is a fucking fact. There is no indication at all that they have one. Cite yourself, you're the ones making the claim that they have a weapons program.
If there was no indication at all, wouldn't that mean that they are doing a good job at hiding the weapons program? This whole fiasco is about Iran covertly obtaining nuclear weapons.

Yeah it's the aliens man, there's no proof of their existance because THEY'RE JUST THAT GOOD at hiding stuff.

Do not forget about Stanislav Petrov. He was on duty at a command centre for the Oko nuclear early warning system.
It went off, apparently showing that five US nuclear missiles were launched. One button press is all it would have taken for Petrov to fire Nuclear Missiles in retaliation.
Thankfully though, Petrov determined that if the US would launch nuclear missiles, they would launch more than just five. Plus the ground radar didn't show anything.
Arkhipov and Petrov were both true heroes. Its a shame that Petrov didn't recieve any rewards, and was forced into early retirement.
But atleast he would know that he basically saved the world from nuclear war.
what the Iranian's can't get their head aroudn is that we're not the only oil dependant nation out there. They start stopping oil tankers and there will be a dozen different navies after them
As of late?

Ten seats were reserved for appointees of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), the military council that has been ruling Egypt since Mubarak fell.

In a separate development, Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, the head of SCAF, ordered the release on Saturday of 1,959 people being held in prisons after having faced military trials.
"It is the biggest pardon since the ouster of then President Hosni Mubarak. All of these people were incarcerated after the SCAF took over and they subjected about 12,000 people to military trials since then," reported Al Jazeera's Sherine Tadros from Cairo.
"Most of those who are incarcerated and are now being pardoned, are mainly in there for cases to do with rioting, attacking public buildings and so on. There has been a lot of talk about military trials. There's a big movement here to try and get rid of these military trials, people saying that they violate human rights."
Maikel Nabil, a prominent blogger who was convicted of insulting the military and sentenced to two years in jail, was among those ordered to be released.
"[Nabil was] the first blogger to be incarcerated by military trial back in April ... and he was against the military and he spoke out against the military and wrote about the military and his case very much resonated across the country at that time because it ... fed into this idea that the country was just going back to its old ways," said Tadros.
"All of this coming just a few days before the first anniversary of the revolution, January 25. SCAF is very adamant to make this a day of celebration, whereas others are trying to make it into a day of demonstration."
They arrested people who were opposed to them and kept them locked away until the elections were over.

Haha, no. 5% of the world's oil isn't going to get the entire planet in a hissy fit, just some of it.

Or are we throwing reserves on here as well? Because if you're going past raw production you run into the issue that Iran can't really do a dickwaving blockade to begin with because they cannot refine enough of their own shit to meet demand anyway, rendering the whole thing moot.

pretty sure its 20% of the worlds oil traffic
aka, massive economic repercussions and oil shortages.
