So would you be happy with me wiping my wet hands all over your flag? Probably not
It's just a flag. I couldn't care less if you pissed all over ours and set it on fire. It's just a fucking flag.
Yea, you CAN do whatever you please. You SHOULD respect other people's opinions if they aren't harmful to you. What part about this are you not getting? [editline]10th June 2012[/editline] Can and should are not the same word.
By saying you SHOULD respect other people's opinions you're implying that it's wrong to not do so I'm saying that it's not, so what part aren't YOU getting?
Okay, suspending the kid was a bit overboard, but we should treat the flag with respect. If I was in charge I'd just give him a stern talking-to on why not to do that and make him apologize.

Oh, and apologise? "Sorry dear Mr. Cloth, I will never wet thee with my moist hands ever again."
It's funny because a lot of american flags are made in china
We import our patriotism
You guys and your obsession with your queens and princes.
You guys and your obsession with presidents..? And flags? This is getting nowhere.
Just reminds me of the Sacred Parchment...
There are some people who are asking if the Pledge of Allegiance is still mandatory in schools and the answer is that it is regional. Here in southern California and maybe the entire state it has not been mandatory and has actually been all but banned for over a decade but for other states I believe they still recite it.
I may not understand, and if I offend you in advance, then I apologise. However, I simply do not see what the significance of a single piece of cloth is. It is composed of fibres that when woven together create a flat piece of cloth, and the colours on it are arranged in such a way so as to represent the symbol that is used by people or organisations to denote they belong to a area of land. Wiping my hands on it? There is no problem with that. It does no damage. It does literally nothing to it but put molecules of H2O on it, that evaporate anyways. Why does this inanimate textile have greater priorities than somebody who was doing something completely harmless to it?
You have no idea how much of an idiot talking like that makes you look. I hate to bring it up this late, as it doesn't even have anything to do with the flag- But talking about anything in such a technical way makes you look incredibly pretentious, as no one actually talks like that in a face to face conversation. "I walked out of my building constructed of many materials that keeps me safe during the hours when the Sun shines on the opposite side of the rocky clump of mass that is the Earth to my several ton object that utilizes an internal combustion engine to propel me to the places I desire."
Thread title is just asking for a flamewar. OP is a dumbass.
It's just a flag that represents america. I doubt he did it to piss people off on facepunch.
Wow am I the only one who actually thinks suspension was an appropriate punishment?
Thread title is just asking for a flamewar. OP is a dumbass.
I wasn't trying to start shit, I thought it was a funny title Quit looking for something to be mad about
I wasn't trying to start shit, I thought it was a funny title Quit looking for something to be mad about
"Gorsh, I wonder whot's gon happen when I post a sensationalist piece of news with a sensationalist title designed to provoke arguments on a forum infamous for its political and nationalist arguments?"
"Gorsh, I wonder whot's gon happen when I post a sensationalist piece of news with a sensationalist title designed to provoke arguments on a forum infamous for its political and nationalist arguments?"
How was my title designed to provoke arguements. It was obviously sarcastic, unless you think a kid getting suspended for wiping his hands of a fucking cloth is okay.
"Gorsh, I wonder whot's gon happen when I post a sensationalist piece of news with a sensationalist title designed to provoke arguments on a forum infamous for its political and nationalist arguments?"
It's a fucking forum. If you don't like arguments you probably shouldn't be here.
It's a fucking forum. If you don't like arguments you probably shouldn't be here.
Because I totally said anywhere that I don't like arguments :downs:
I'm preeeeety sure cloth is a good rag to dry your wet hands. Jesus guys, it's like he set it on fire to you. He had water on his hands, didn't want to wipe it on his pants for self respect and wiped water on a flag. It probably dried out in a minute. If Obama watched him do it, he'd probably shrug it off and say "hey dude, that's not a good thing to do. You may offend some people on Facepunch (or something)" because he's s kid..
Flags aren't actually cloth. They're typically nylon. They're not good at absorbing moisture.
The poor flag
except its just a flag he didn't go "fuck america you fat mcdonalds eating biblethumping arseholes" he just needed to wipe his hands and he made a decision understandable if you are at least somewhat tolerant. believe it or not, freedom of expression works both ways
It is a just a flag to you, to other people it means much more. People get symbolic attachments to certain items. I'm sure you have a few things that are material objects but mean a lot to you because of some background behind it. To other people it just looks like a regular object, to you it is more. I don't get how hard this is to understand. Again if it does not matter to a few people it shouldn't matter to the rest right? Get over yourselves. Should the kid been punished so bad...hell no. I don't agree with it, but someone should have simply told him you don't do that to a flag and let it be.

People always seek stuff to get offended about.
Yeah except patriotism to such extents is stupid. People always seek stuff to get offended about.
To degree, there is nothing wrong with one loving his or her country. However I hardly see someone asking to respect the nations flag as extreme. It isn't like a bunch of nutjobs are going to strap bombs to their chest and attack the family for it. Is it stupid for all people outside on military bases to stop at 430-500PM and salute the flag as it is being lowered? No it is called respect, i certainly wouldn't desecrate someones national flag, holy text, or whatever may be important to them. Ask yourself what is important to you..Now imagine what that important thing is and someone taking it away or destroying it. Don't tell me you wouldn't be pissed. How hard for people to just let that shit be. They're just as irrational as the people who go nuts over this shit because they can't seem to grasp why it is important and should just be left alone. It does not hurt them in any shape or form.
