Huh, well, according to Wikipedia the chemical that might be in the horse meat, phenylbutazone, causes aplastic anemia in humans, which has a good a survival rate of 80% if you're under 20 if it's treated. But it doesn't cause cancer, so you know, it's not so bad :v:
If you want to eat Horse meat then go ahead. But I don't think I can eat horse, they have character. Kinda like why I don't eat dogs.
All these food stories with mislabeling keep reminding me of this.
It's about as ethical as eating dog or cat meat, but for some reason I imagine people on Facepunch aren't too open to the idea of promoting dog/cat meat farms.
I'd have no problem with eating dog or cat meat, as long as it tastes good.
Horse is tasty.
Horse meat is healthier who cares.
I'd have no problem with eating dog or cat meat, as long as it tastes good.
I couldn't. It would just be weird for me since I have had many cats as pets before. And I don't know why they would sell meat that's so hard to produce, there isn't a lot of meat on cats and dogs vs a half ton cow.
They get entitled to special treatment to not be eaten because they're seen as pets, there's really no other reason. Again, why is it ok to say Horse should be fair game but not dog, cat, gerbil, or any other animal seen exclusively as pets in Euro-American cultures?
Because horses are fucking huge compared to those animals especially a gerbil.
This explains a lot, I've bought those frozen Findus lasagnes. They're probably the nicest microwave/oven lasagnes I've ever had
My girlfriend works as a buyer for Palmer and Harvey (big wholesale company in the UK) and apparently Tesco have started recalling a LOT of products citing "packaging errors" right now. Yeah right.
My girlfriend works as a buyer for Palmer and Harvey (big wholesale company in the UK) and apparently Tesco have started recalling a LOT of products citing "packaging errors" right now. Yeah right.
Yeah they're going to update the ingredients list
Yeah they're going to update the ingredients list
Only packaging error on their was saying it was "Beef" lasagne.
Because horses are fucking huge compared to those animals especially a gerbil.
Chicken or rabbit meat is pretty common even though they're small animals.
Breaking News: Apple sues supermarket. Just because.
The doctor said I should watch what I eat, so I've bought a ticket for the Grand National [sp]BBC Radio 2 jokes[/sp]

If you were marooned on an island with a dog you would eat it.
I think what he means to say is that it's high in sodium and saturated fats. Which it is. So is the majority of the meat market, processed foods or not.
Well, as long it doesn't have HORSE in it, or phenylbutazone, I'm good.
Shit I ate one of these last week.
I'd rather not eat horse meat, don't know why just doesn't feel right however odd that may sound.

Mother of god. I had 2 of these yesterday, I feel the effects coming on...... NEIIIIIIGH
It's fine when a product contains 1% of another variety of meat (as that's simply how the meat industry works), but 100% is false advertising and they should be punished for this.
I don't really see the problem with eating Horse meat in general. I don't consider Horses as "pets" so I'd be fine with eating one. Then again, probably the only meat I wouldn't eat is cat meat. I'd be up for trying anything else. However, this is pretty bad of the company. Regardless of Horse meat being cheaper, healthier, or whatever, it's false labelling/advertising and as said previously if the Horses weren't bred for human consumption they could contain two or three things in them which are pretty harmful to humans. Also, whilst it's unlikely, there's a possibility someone could be allergic to some of the proteins/other things found in Horse meat which aren't found in beef/any meat from a cow. :v:
A part of me is really hoping the offie is still selling these.
It's not so much the problem of eating horses, that's fine with me, it's more to do with the fact we have no idea what the fuck is going into our food. If a lasagne can be 100% horse meat without anyone else noticing, what else could possibly be in there? Everything these days is processed, mutilated and fucked with before ending up on supermarket shelves, sometimes it unnerves me. Also horse meat is cheap because there isn't a large market for it, as say compared to beef, so it's not that valuable. Hence why it's cheaper for these companies to use horse meat.

People are suddenly panicing and throwing out this stuff despite the fact they have eaten it before (and enjoyed it). As someone sort of said before, if you were fed horse meat (or human meat for that matter) without you know what it is and you enjoyed it, congrats you just discovered something new you like. Why don't we just start selling more horse meat apparently the shit tastes fine
You shouldn't throw it out because you can call Findus on 0800 132584, get a full refund, and still eat it.
Even better reason not to throw it out!
Why don't we just start selling more horse meat apparently the shit tastes fine
Yeah should be labelled as horse meat and checked first though to remove concerns about what medicines the horse had taken, etc. You can get horsemeat in some places specifically and it's perfectly legal, I might get some horse steaks from exotic meats UK
