Damn. Lucky he didn't get into a car accident.
Hold your hand up and hold it to your head, then tap your fingertips against your skull; that's about where it hit, so he probably just wore a hat over it to hide it.

I can hardly imagine the funeral procedures and his family getting a intact corpse when he deceases. [editline]8th June 2012[/editline]
I doubt you'd get noticeable burns from a high explosive device, the concussion would've popped everyone's lungs though.
Actually this has been tested and the shock apparently doesn't rip your lungs out, because the blast disperses too fast for it to create enought high pressure to kill you. Even indoors.
I remember a story about a guy who had a grenade burrow into his skull and not explode. IIRC he lived the rest of his life with it there because they didn't risk taking it out and possibly detonating it, because the trigger was being held down by something in his head. [editline]8th June 2012[/editline] Also, to clarify, it's this kind of grenade: Not a hand nade.
I don't mean to be an ass, but I find that story somewhat difficult to believe. Those grenades are HUGE, if you get one embedded in your skull your brain is gone.

He had to have assistance for the rest of his life. You'd be surprised by what the human body can withstand. I've read about people who lived life after having their lower bodies cut off by trains, people who've had iron rods rammed through their heads and lived, ect.. [editline]8th June 2012[/editline] IIRC, he was wearing a helmet, and it took the brunt of the impact force, so it only went into his skull so far and didn't reach his brain.
IIRC, he was wearing a helmet, and it took the brunt of the impact force, so it only went into his skull so far and didn't reach his brain.
What I'm saying is, if it didn't reach his brain, that would mean three and a half inches of grenade sticking out of his head. The skull's only about 7mm thick.

It has been a while since I read the story; it's more likely that it was a dud and they took it out. All I'm sure of is that there was a skull and a grenade and more penetration than a whore at a dockside tavern during shore leave.
who the fcuk cares should have hit the cunts head useless meatbag terrorists in uniform

useless meatbag terrorists in uniform

meatbag terrorists

meatbag
Yes, I agree
Give those medics a god damn medal for doing that.
"You have an RPG in your leg" "...cool." How could you take something like that so calmly?!
Probably was in shock and didn't really understand what he was told.
No, not exactly. The arming distance on the RPG-7's projectile is 5m, meaning it can detonate against a wall 6m away, and they are often used in point-blank ambush attacks on convoys. The reason why it didn't detonate is a combination of impact material and age. RPGs are designed to be used against vehicles, so their fuses are meant to operate on sudden impact with a solid object, and hitting something less resistant like flesh produces less of a shock. Ordinarily this would still set it off, at the very least causing a detonation after the 4.5 second failsafe, but many of these RPGs are leftovers from the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan and are heavily degraded. It seems that in this case, the rocket was entirely a dud.
Alright, Thanks for the clarity. That does make sense. All and all I am glad he survived. Poor guy.
I think there was an episode of Grey's Anatomy where this happened..
It's like that old phrase, "There are no atheists in foxholes." Except in this case, the guy's probably thanking his [personal belief of] god, one way or another, for not getting blown into bloody kibbles everywhere and avoiding serious permanent damage. I know i'd probably do so.
Probably was in shock and didn't really understand what he was told.
they prolly had him doped to hell and back
God bless all the troops. Stay safe and return home soon.
Quite the parallel reading the thread about the suicide-a-day in the US army, then reading about this marine who is now walking off an RPG wound through his leg. Makes you wonder what it's like in the middle ground.
who the fcuk cares should have hit the cunts head useless meatbag terrorists in uniform
I find you funny. You make me laugh. Not for this comment, but because you are probably some kid who will never amount to anything in life. Sits around gaining weight, doesn't know the meaning of honor and valor, and just jerks it to pictures of girls you will never have. Semper Fi. That is one tough Marine.

Not entirely related, but they don't work well if the impact surface is soft; on this one training exercise in winter every single one that missed the target fell in the snow and didn't detonate. I pity the poor bastard who had to go around looking for both those and similarly failed LAW rockets :v: [editline]11th June 2012[/editline]
It's like that old phrase, "There are no atheists in foxholes."
