Fuck deer. They're everywhere and all they do is eat my flowers.
Edit: And fuck you guys who side with the deer. You probably live in places where there is maybe a deer every 10 square miles. Ever been chased by one? Didn't think so.
If you don't want to get chased by a deer don't fuck with them.
They're animals man, they don't exactly do things on purpose just to piss YOU off.
Uh.
There are shitloads of deer where I live. And it sucks because they can't do shit about us expanding our cities and whatnot. True, they're annoying as hell when they get into your yard and destroy shit or fuck up your car, but that's not really their fault.
As for you being chased by one, you probably got near a mate if it was a male or their baby if it was female. Common sense tells you to not go near a wild deer.
Common sense tells me I can't see them when I'm walking through the woods.
And I understand it's not all their fault, but the thing is, deer move away, but then come back. They can't learn to stay the fuck out.
Why can't they be like bears, or mountain lions? Just stay in the forests.
Edit: And no, I don't advocate beating them with shovels, but I'm all for population control through other means, such as hunting.

Why are you walking through the woods without being aware that there might be deer in there? Bring a flashlight if you're walking through at night. If you can't see them during the day then keep your ears open. They're not that hard to spot or hear.
They're animals dude. Expecting more from them is stupid. And it's not the same exact deer that come back.
Fixed. They are causing damage that costs a shit load to fix. If they government pays to have them killed and what-not then we save a ton on damage expenses.

Bears and mountain lions have the same problems with consistently getting into suburban areas too :downs:
I'm not arguing that hunting would help the population. Deer meat is good.
What I'm saying is that being "mad" at the deer for causing damage is stupid. It's not their fault. It's our fault for expanding into their habitat.

"FUCK! My car is totaled and I'm in the hospital now and can't work, so I'll probably lose my - Oh wait I was intruding on his habitat so I'm suddenly not mad anymore. Damn humans."
my brother hit a deer in the first month he got his car
damn deers

So get your area to build higher fences to keep the wildlife out.
You move into an area where a bunch of deer were cleared out to build houses, you're going to expect those deer to come back wondering what the fuck is going on.
Deer are not menaces who are trying to ruin your life and lol at you afterwards.

A huge fence along all roads is both wasteful and expensive. It's easier just to do something like lower the cost of a hunting license so people are encouraged to hunt more so they lower the deer population enough that shit like that doesn't happen enough that people beat baby deer to death with shovels.
And sure they aren't trying to ruin our life, but they are and it's costing a lot to fix. So yes, people are going to be mad regardless of who or what is doing it.
Like I said, I'm not arguing that hunting is a good way to fix the problem. But being mad at the species as a whole because they're out to destroy everything in your backyard and are purposely hurling themselves at your car is stupid.
I love it when people want to ban hunting, but then they complain when they hit them with their cars because the deer population has exploded out of control.
The natural cycle for these things is to have a population explosion, eat everything in sight then starve to death until next year when everything regrows and the surviving deer reproduce again.
Hunting doesn't solve that problem. the natural cycle is when animals kill other animals to survive. not sum faggit killing things because he thinks guns are kewl.
There are more humans stupid enough to run into the road in front of a car then there are deers
Why would you not be mad at something that's costing millions in damage and injuring and killing people. It's easy to say stuff like that when it's never happened to you.
Yes it has. I live in an area surrounded by areas where deer are living. We've had three cars destroyed because of deer running out into the road and have had our house broken into by them. We were mad, but we didn't go out and say, "It's all the fucking deer's fault for running out into the road and being stupid" or "stupid deer thought it would be funny to break into the house".
It's an animal trying to survive. If that leads it to cross the road while your car is speeding at it or if it decides to investigate your house for veggies then you can't blame it for trying to live.
deers have to strike back now and wage war.
Fight comrads! United we shall prevail! :v:
Title made me think about another controversional war agaisnt something really stupid that people would fight outrageous
Here in Minnesota we actually have a deer quota, seeing as there are 3 deer for every Minnesotan. Our hunting permits let us get anywhere between 4 to 8 deer per person, and it's not uncommon at all for someone to walk away with that many.
Deer are a fucking menace here. The neighborhood by the river's having constant problems with deer in the winter eating up all of their junipers and anything else in reach. There's also an amusing row of Eastern Pyramidal Arborvitaes on campus that the deer have pruned so the bottom 4 feet have no needles on them left.
Car insurance is higher here than it is in the nearest city because of deer.
Hunting doesn't solve that problem. the natural cycle is when animals kill other animals to survive. not sum faggit killing things because he thinks guns are kewl.
So what will we do then? Let them overpopulate, starve to death because of lack of food and have their rotting corpses all over the forest? That's a lot of good meat going to waste.
"But there's predators!" you say
Predators? What fucking predators? The coyotes? Wolves aren't anywhere near the great majority of deer-prone areas. Black Bears aren't interested in deer meat. We're the only predators left who can keep them from becoming overpopulated.
The trucks in Sweden hits them on purpose, I once saw one truck down 4 of them and just kept going.
I hate them aswell, but they make excellent meat.
This gives me some strong thoughts...
A double barreled shotgun mixed with a shovel would make awesome hunting weapon.

Just the other night I was driving along this highway (on the same side as the google car) and there was a deer prancing around on the other side. It was amusing, but maybe dangerous had a car rounded the bend :zoid: I blame urban sprawl/suburban expansion, not the deer.
Couldn't remember the letter, tried like 5
:saddowns:
Holy shit. "an old woman found a fawn in her garden" Aww thats cute. "She then beat it to death"
:ohdear:

Hunting would cut the deer population down, so yes, it would solve the population problem. And you've obviously never had a deer jump out in the middle of the road when you're going 60 mph at night.
I ran over a dead deer Tuesday night on the way to work and had to stop, make sure my truck as alright then drag the damn thing out of the road.
Then on the way back from work, I saw 1 deer on the side of the road, nearly hit one walking across the road in front of me, then saw another one run across the road about 100m in front of me. All within about 40 min.
Yea...

This is exactly what I was saying earlier, when the deer population gets big enough, they'll strip an entire forest of all edible plants within reach, not even mentioning the plants on private property. A population managed by wildlife officials that sell deer tags (One tag equals one deer, but only for that season whether you get one or not.) doesn't do this. Not to mention the money gained from deer tags.
It is NOT people going out and shooting wild animals for the hell of it, anyone going out to take a deer does it for the venison. A smaller number might take trophies, but even then most people only save the antlers of large bucks. It's not some blind hate toward the deer, if you want to effectively manage a population it needs to be done. It's not like the deer suffer a slow death, hunting bullets are designed to deliver the most damage onto the target as possible and any competent shooter will land a hit to a vital area no problem, they usually die instantly because their internal organs have been turned into red goo.
Contraception is a waste of time, are you really going to capture and tie the tubes on that many wild animals? You're just eliminating the competition for the deer that aren't sterilized and leaving an animal that continues to eat and roam free. Relocation was covered in the article as well, the deer know where to get food and they'll keep going back for it because lets face it, people like having nice looking plants in their yards and the deer do too.
What the fuck, who in there right mind just thinks "there's a deer in my garden...the logical thing to do must be to beat it to death with a shovel"
Call some animal dudes to scare it off or move it to a new location atleast.
Just going to tell you this, it states they already tried that. Plus it states it's illegal.
This is like the Newfoundland and moose. There are so many the Highways aren't safe to drive at night

Only that more people need to learn how to dress and cook deer meat. (Deer jerky!!!) If there are that many deer, we ought to be using them for food, like nature does.
