Ninety-nine percent of the ocean's plastic is missing

Essentially, we really don't know if this is good or bad yet.
We should dump a bunch of apples to balance it out.
Well, isn't this some what good news?
If we didn't eat fish at all it'd be good news.
If someone collected all the plastic in the ocean, how much could they get for recycling it + selling it?

Significantly less than the cost of gathering it all.
Plastics disappear for the same reason brake and tire dust on roads disappears: something is making a living off of it.
There are tons of microorganisms that make a living breaking down hydrocarbons for energy, and they've been around for a LONG time.
would this mean that eventually super-fish and super-microbes might evolve with the power to eat non-biodegradeable plastic and then they all come onto land and slaughter our food packaging
Jesus did it.
It took too long for people to realize that the environment could be changed irreversibly because of human interaction with the same. It's just coming home to roost in severe damage which is accelerating with the level of pollution being currently put out.
There is no such thing as irreversible damage to the environment. The Earth will prevail, we might just not be there to see it.
I wager that the aliens are at fault for this :v:
That aside, it's curious to know that the fish are responsible, thinking of it as food.
Or we are secretly feeding an old god to strengthen it so it may return and unleash 10,000 years of darkness, upon the aliens that is

There is such a thing as irreversible damage to the environment, we might just not exist long enough to see the Earth destroyed.
There is such a thing as irreversible damage to the environment, we might just not exist long enough to see the Earth destroyed.
So what you're saying is, we best destroy it ASAP so we don't miss that bitchin' awesome event.
Its all converging to form Plastic Beach.
Murdoc warned us about this.
Plastic Beach I can maybe handle, but please, don't let them make The Fall!
There is such a thing as irreversible damage to the environment, we might just not exist long enough to see the Earth destroyed.
unless you were planning on smashing a planet into Earth then destroying it is gonna be pretty much an impossible task at this point in time
making the environment hazardous and unlivable for humans however is much easier
sorry i got hungry

Destroyed? Please. Earth has been around for a few billion years and unless she gets hit by giant space rocks she'll be around for a few billion more. The only thing humans can do is fuck up our chances of survivability on it, but the Earth will be fine.

I didn't say we'd have anything to do with it.
^Oh alright we good.
There is such a thing as irreversible damage to the environment, we might just not exist long enough to see the Earth destroyed.
Earth will be destroyed no matter what, and regardless of what people do to it it's going to happen with the sun's death.

Implying we don't build a massive rocket engine on it's ass-end before that happens and turn the whole god damn planet into a spaceship.
Heat will be generated partially from the engine, partially from the core of the earth.

The cowards way out, a true hero of earth would build a rocket, powered by the sun, to move the sun. Or a ball round the sun holding it all together and gathering its sweet energy.

An even truer hero would harvest dark matter and energy to get around the universe almost instantly with relatively low amounts of power.
the illuminati clearly have something to do with it

That sounds very unamerican to me.
We need to take advantage of the ocean currents already and clean up this shit. Most of the ocean is still unexplored and it may just fuck us over if we keep this problem unchecked.

Good thing I don't :D

That idea would do more harm than good by slaughtering plankton. Allow me to find the scientific rebuttal.

I thought everything in this article was established a long time ago? What's new?
Either way, fish and shit eating it would mean that the fragments of plastic make their way up the food chain, until, they eventually end up on our dinner plates. Fun.
