SAN ANTONIO - Brendan Tarwater, 17, was arrested Monday on multiple charges after police said he was caught with three loaded weapons on the campus of Madison High School. North East Independent School District spokeswoman Aubrey Chancellor said two handguns were found in his backpack and an AK-47 was discovered in a bathroom. The sophomore student told district police he planned on using them if certain demands were not met. "The student had said that he planned making some demands over the announcements later today at Madison High School," Chancellor said. "He didn't say specifically what those demands were, but he did say if those demands were not met, he had planned on committing violence." Tarwater's parents notified school officials after they discovered their son was not at home when they woke up, Chancellor said. When his parents checked the house for weapons, they discovered that the three guns were missing, Chancellor said. When the parents went to Madison, their son was already on campus. He was immediately taken into custody and the school was on lockdown for about 1 and 1/2 hours. Yvella Allen, the parent of a Madison High School student, said she was relieved the weapons were found and that there was no violence. "That does make me feel better but what about tomorrow?" Allen said. "(I) Don't know what's going to happen tomorrow. What are they going to do to protect the kids now?" "If these kids are bringing guns to school, they're doing it for a reason, and whatever they're doing it for, they need help with that," said Madison student Brittany Arizola. There are no metal detectors at the school. Tarwater is being held in juvenile detention on charges including possession of weapon in prohibited places, a third-degree felony, and terroristic threat. Bond for each charge is $150,000.
Source
Thankfully the parents immediately checked to see where their guns were at. Makes me question their methods of storage though. Good to see it didn't go any further, hopefully this kid gets the help he needs.

Bexar county? My wife went to High School in that district. Huh. Odd that this happened. Only 8% of students in Bexar county fall even close to the poverty line with only 2-4% falling below it. When she was going to school there, it was common to see kids driving mommy and daddy's Ferarri or Porsche. It's certainly a rich area. I'm kind of wondering what demands he was trying to make, considering his parents are likely pretty wealthy.
-snip- im a retard
I'd love to have an AK-47. $15,000~ rifle. Man, the joy of mainstream media mistaking the AKM..

There's definitely no other reason they could be doing this such as bullying or something.
I feel like I've seen more things like this recently in my area, it's rather surprising. My district hasn't been directly affected like NEISD or some of the other local ones have by gun violence, but we've had several drug busts in my district this year alone.
Reminds me of this:
nobody ever suspects the kid in parachute-grade clothing with a bunch of stretched bumps jutting out at weird angles walking like he broke his ass
Reminds me of this:
I want to see him walk with even half of that
"If these kids are bringing guns to school, they're doing it for a reason, and whatever they're doing it for, they need help with that," said Madison student Brittany Arizola.
I think it really says something that the student can see this and the adults generally can't.
oh hey, that's my high school. good thing that kid was caught before he could do any damage. i was in a classroom right down the hall when he was arrested. the kid charged has always had problems, not too surprised something like this happened.
I want to see him walk with even half of that
You get the kid with the wooden leg to be your walking armory to avoid detection.

what were his demands
I know a good portion of Facepunch is pro-gun laws, but does nobody see this as a reason why civilians should not have guns?
I know a good portion of Facepunch is pro-gun laws, but does nobody see this as a reason why civilians should not have guns?
There's always the one...
I know a good portion of Facepunch is pro-gun laws, but does nobody see this as a reason why civilians should not have guns?
It's the parents fault not the kids. Kid is just messed up. Don't take away guns from millions of people because 2 dickbag parents don't know how to raise a kid...
I know a good portion of Facepunch is pro-gun laws, but does nobody see this as a reason why civilians should not have guns?
the mentally unstable shouldn't have guns better yet, kids shouldn't be subjected to relentless bullying and apathetic administrators that force the kids to think this is their only choice
Here's a red flag
Tarwater's parents notified school officials after they discovered their son was not at home when they woke up, Chancellor said. When his parents checked the house for weapons, they discovered that the three guns were missing, Chancellor said.
Who would immediately check the house for their weapons after seeing their son left early? People who know their kid is fucked up in the worst way. If he had went on a spree with them, not only would he probably be killed at the end of it, his blood and those he shot would be on the parents' hands for knowing what type of person he is and still having weapons and ammo easily accessible to him
"It's just a boner I swear!"
when someone freely admits they have a boner, you know they're lying

His mother frequently does substitute teaching around the district, I mean, she should be accustomed to an average, mentally stable student. Despite all this, I'm still glad they found this out before he started, he could have easily got the gun in the bathroom during the passing period (which was about 10 minutes from happening).
I know a good portion of Facepunch is pro-gun laws, but does nobody see this as a reason why civilians should not have guns?
There's 310 Million legally registered guns in the USA. You want to get rid of them? Good luck. Besides that, out of the 310 Million, 0.03% are used in crimes. Actually the figure is probably less than that since the majority of handguns used in crimes are actually illegally owned. And of the 30k or so people who are killed by a gun every year, over half are suicides. Despite about 90 out of every 100 people owning a gun, murders with guns are at their lowest rate since 1981, with assaults and robberies also on the decline. I'm Pro-Gun and have two myself, and I haven't shot anyone. The other 90% of Americans who also own guns can say the same. It isn't legal gun owners who are the problem 99.999% of the time, anyway. Imagine the decisions that would be made if everything was scrutinized over such small percentages. All water reservoirs would be dumped, that's for sure
"It's just some boners I swear!"
Fixed.
What a dumb motherfucker, thankfully his parents helped prevent the violence, but damn why do you let your dumbass, teenage son have access to your guns? Also, that parent who was interviewed, what do you want? TSA screenings at all schools now? Why is it the school's responsibility to defend against psycho kids raised by ineffectual parents.
