In a sense, it sadly did fail.
You cannot create a multicultural world where everyone is happy and nice. If you try to dismantle nationalities ("all they cause is trouble anyway"), all you get is big portions of the populace being in an identity crisis of sorts, not feeling like they truly belong anywhere, who then turn to extremities to find an identity, be it neonazism or such things (in an attempt to feel "national pride" again) or just being a football hooligan. People want to.. People NEED to belong somewhere.
