I see what you mean, but as I said, it's a dangerously slippery slope... If the prison can be years of solitary confinement in a concrete cell, then why even maintain it, let's just let those cells rot, they'll just feel shittier... But then why make better cells for minor criminals? Let's throw everyone in there, no matter how serious the crime is, that'll teach them... But then why shouldn't we use violence against them? Serves them right... But then why can't we use violence against everyone who breaks the law? Fuckers should just abide... Next thing you know, you get a baton in your face for jaywalking. It is of course an exaggerated example, but a standard should be maintained. That's why we ARE better than third world countries.
Prisons shouldn't be inhumane places. They should just be extremely strict, extremely secure, and not welcoming. But by no means traumatizing. That'd just make "learning the lesson" even harder.

True, but, I mean, I'm an immigrant at the moment, and a huge minority seeing as how I live in Spain, and I honestly have no complaints besides how these people never seem to be prepared for winter. It's like my apartment was adapted to have absolutely no heat conserving what so ever. But, besides that things are fine, because I wanted to live here in the first place, and if I don't like it, then I can move, instead of making 12.000.000 other people having to adjust just for my sake, since I'm a mere minority.

The problem with your logic is, not everyone in prison is a murderer. SOme just stole something. Some just drove drunk. Some just did something really stupid, and only spend a month or so there. Or should there be different prisons for different criminals? But where to draw the line of what is serious crime and what isn't? ANd what if someone killed a thug like this out of revenge or something? Would they be put in there to suffer endlessly too? But wouldn't that go against what you wanted? Or there'd be "good" murder and "bad" murder?
