I honestly don't understand why these DRM's even exist. 90% of them are made to fight a type of piracy that existed many years ago. I bet these "restrictive-use" DRM's haven't stopped a single pirate.
I admit this game isn't the worst, but the DRM still shouldn't be there at all.
DRM is necessary now days.
Yeah, but it isn't really effective.
why on earth would the retail be cheaper?
Steam is going to take a slice of the profits. Bandwidth for the rest of Steam's life cycle isn't free. Stamping CD/DVDs is cheap. 1,000 DVDs with cases can be made for less than $1/unit - and that's a small quantity from an online service [Source].
So, the big thing to beat is the cost of packaging/shipping/handling these discs; which, apparently, is less than Steam's price.
wait, so DA2 on steam will be not full of online checks and bullshit?
how is their retail DRM going to stop anything at all then.
steam games get cracked all the time
DRM is necessary now days.
No it isn't.
It ends up displeasing the shit out of the customers.
Pirates aren't stupid at all. They know what they're doing.
Almost every single game has been pirated at some point, regardless of how strict the DRM is.

non steam games also get cracked all the time too, what's your point
non steam games also get cracked all the time too, what's your point
my point is, by cracking the steam DRM, they don't even have to deal with circumventing internet checks, etc; making it effectively useless
(Verdana 's my alt)
DRM is going to be cracked though, so what's the point?
So it's be online to play or be online every couple of days to play?
cool
The retail version is better than AC2's, at least
I think a notecard packaged in the retail box that says, "Please don't distribute our game! <3" is the most effective form of DRM.
Must appeal to their morals, because there's too many badass hackers and crackers out there.
