Oh the irony: Sick PCs should be banned from the net, says Microsoft
We can play any iD game ever released on Linux (thank you Carmack!)... what did you mean by that?
Oh cool you get ID
We get ID and everything else.
A while back my PC was in horrible state, explorer.exe wouldn't launch and all that, bleeping warning sounds from AntiVirus all the time but I couldn't react to that.
then I downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials and it fixed everything up straight off the bat. Used CCleaner to remove old antivirus though.
I think linux is a really good operating system with good potential but it still needs brushing up on. The new ubuntu is great everything i had worked straight out of the box all it needs now is more games and less terminal.
The main problem really is Internet naivete. People need to be more suspicious of files they receive, more cynical of "YOU'RE WINNER!" ads and such. Would be easier if Microsoft put more effort into exploit-plugging and idiot-proofing, of course, but that's easier said than done as they likely already expend a lot of effort on that.

I'm sure if any other platform had the same market share as microsoft, all the flaws will show up...
I'm sure if any other platform had the same market share as microsoft, all the flaws will show up...
No doubt, i'm just saying a more significant investment in security and maintenance on Microsoft's part is pretty much all they can do for their part at the moment, albeit not as feasible as simply having people educated on Internet scams, tricks and traps.

I once heard an author remark that when you are a child you use a computer by looking at the pictures. When you grow up, you learn to read and write.
Embrace the terminal, she is your friend :v:
So how do i google for ways to get rid of the virus then?

It's precisely this mentality which prevents linux from being popular.

If you patch a viral method on a scale like that (To all Microsoft customers) people will just find new methods. The only way to sort it out is by education.

Sorry bro, if you have the time do do everything commandline style, you won't have the time for the above.
This isn't actually a bad idea. Infact this is a good idea. It would block the spread of viruses somewhat. It wouldn't be one hundred percent effective but it theory if they did it right, it could work.

This is exactly what I did the other day, I downloaded & installed Ubuntu, then asked why I did it, all it does is slow my boot time.
Windows is better and more popular so stop trying to make arguments OP.

What that comic doesn't show you is that he spent weeks waiting for each of the motorcycle parts to arrive by mail then meticulously assembling it himself, using instruction manuals full of impenetrable diagrams and text, and through all that it still can't handle fullscreen flash.

I'm tempted to make a joke about eugenics but I won't.
Can we move on from talking about Operating systems and actually talk about whether or not this idea is good? Fucking sidetracked right at the beginning.

Ok now, seriously.
I think this is a good idea and I wonder why nobody thought about this 10+ years ago

Like I said, you're spending so much time on command line that you can't even write a decent counterargument.

Are you implying that Linux not being user-friendly is a good thing?

why does everything have to be user-friendly? linux in general is fine as it is. windows is for children and linux is for adults

I use Windows Server 2008 R2 on a desktop comp and Vista + Ubuntu 10.0.4 on a separate laptop, and I have been using Vista/Ubuntu since 2007 and definitely prefer Windows. Both have the same potential to do a lot but it is so much less time-consuming on Windows due to how much easier it is.

It sure is a "n00b filter", so I kind of approve of it.
Where's my :ughh: emote when I need it?
Wait a second... Have you even tried to use a Linux distro, at least ONCE?
why does everything have to be user-friendly? linux in general is fine as it is. windows is for children and linux is for adults
What if I like both? What does that make me?

That comic makes fun of the arrogance of people who use Linux. The brilliance of XKCD is that it's written by nerds who are fine insulting themselves.
