I still don't understand why they decided to not just rebuild the towers as their original design
They had a critical design flaw in that they were vulnerable to airliners being flown into them at 750 km/h.
Personally, I'd have built both back exactly how they looked... externally at least.
Internally? Whole new beast. Modernize the fuck out of the inerds, but make the outside look EXACTLY the same as the original towers.
Just a big fucking square? What's special about that?
Can't wait for it to be completed.
itd be funny if terrorists destroyed the new WTC while it was under construction
Not really, no.
Just a big fucking square? What's special about that?
Because its the biggest possible "FUCK YOU" to the ones who did it. "Yeah, you knocked it down, now check it out, its like it never even happened. See how much you affected us? Was it worth it?"

You are a sad, pathetic person.

i forgot that making a replica of the old building invalidated all the casualties, loss of civil liberties and millions of dollars spent on the rebuilding
You are a sad, pathetic person.
please stop flaming me

Goddamnit Kopimi thats not the poooint.
Oh, and side note, dead serious here.
How is your name pronounced? is it "Co-Pee-Mee" or "Copy-Mee".
Like seriously its been bugging me.
They should have built the original towers, but 10x the size and every 5 seconds it breaths fire and says REMEMBER ME
I like how they remind everybody that 9/11 happened in the article.

That's the BBC's very matter-of-fact writing style

That's what I think. To show that the attacks were useless and that there is no fear of terrorism since everything got back to normal only ten years after them. That's a better idea than doing big mourning ceremonies every year.
I like how it took them longer to build one tower than it did the old two.
It took 5 years from start to build tower one originally and another year to finish tower 2.
They started work on freedom tower in 2006, and its expected to be completed next month actually. so it would take 7 years to finish. They finish one floor per week roughly. So yea, its taken longer but im sure everything building wise is going a little slower than when we were prospering in the 60s,70s. Im just glad that they are getting it done and it looks cool also.

Why not let the ones who's family and friends died that day not mourn? More than 2,500 people died that day, if they want to mourn let them mourn.

why bother putting up the facade and pretending that we overcame anything, the terrorists won
the country has fundamentally changed and a lot of our rights were trampled on as a result of the attacks, clearly the attacks weren't "useless" considering they did what they set out to do, hurt america. how is there no fear of terrorism? people see a muslim in an airport and immediately call security and now senior citizens are getting molested at the airport just in case there is some form of explosive device in their catheter, america is still terrified of terrorism
And only took them 11 years!

Well I'm sure the more complex architecture and extra building strengthening support adds some building time.

They definitely succeeded in spreading terror but they didn't really win did they considering the US invaded their country and killed them
-snip- joke you dumbfucks
Oh wow I had no idea.
Some people thought the Titanic was just a movie and not a real boat.
I assume that some people dont know that 9/11 happened.
Copymee you're such a buzz kill.

the titanic didn't happen in this generations lifetime

Yea, it was built to be stronger and more secure than the first ones.
Oh wow I had no idea.
When most of the world hears "9/11", we think of the 9th of November. If I was asked on the spot, I'd probably blurt out November as opposed to September, as reading day / month is perfectly normal to me. It's not totally irrelevant.
Huh.
Looks like I'll get a chance to stand on the top of the World Trade Center after all.

what the fuck?
just stop
what the fuck?

...? Stop what?
Idk, about you but I wouldn't want the same old outside design. Brings back terrible memories while a complete new design wouldn't.
the titanic didn't happen in this generations lifetime
Anyone that is in 8th grade (or earlier) probably does not remember it.
Anyone that is in 8th grade (or earlier) probably does not remember it.
they may not remember what they were doing when it happened but the 2000 era has been molded by 9/11, 9/11 is a common term and there are reminders of what happened that day everywhere you turn. whether or not an 8th grader remembers watching it happen on live tv, they definitely know that it happened

Doubt it.

I was in the fifth grade, easy. Nobody told the students that it had happened, so i got to learn about it by walking in the front door at home and having my happy day dissolve at the sight of disaster, chaos, death, and sorrow showing off of my mother's face. I think you need to adjust your estimate a little.
