Wow, VALVe update their game and all of a sudden it has a thriving economy for items that they're more or less just saying "THIS IS REALLY REALLY VALUABLE".
It's the equivalent of drawing your own money on green paper and just telling people it's worth a million pounds, then getting away with it.
How much is my Bill's hat worth in games?
$10 last I checked
Mother of money.
So, how do you find hats? I want to have a 24 hour TF2 fest and see if I can get some for Skyrim.
$50 Million dollars? with that much money going around, it won't be long before some companies pop up selling hats and other Mann-conomy stuff. Unless those already exist.
Holy shit I expected much much less TBH
So, do we have Chinese hat farms yet?
Fix the US economy with hats and refined metal.
Im disappointed that my stock trading platform doesnt list MANN.FX as a real share
I just haven't been able to play this game anymore since that whole man-conomy or whatever update. I feel like the hats and new weapons are totally out of place and ruined the feel of the game. And that whole newer menu makes skyrim's interface look inviting. I wish it was still the same game that came out in 2007, a much more stylized Team Fortress Classic.

Good luck with that
an average hat would = ~2 refined, more if it is wanted or new
1 refined = 0.70-$1
The only things actually worth stuff are Buds, Max heads, and unusuals.
I have like 2 hats that are not promotional.

I can see it now. in 10 years, we will all be trading on the NYHE- New York Hat Exchange. Everyday hundreds of people will suit up, log in, and trade on TF2.
Buds and Max heads are really worth something? Why? Are they so rare?
Gabe Newell for president! He obviously knows something about an economy.
"In other news, President Newell invested in 20 different hat companies."
Aw, look at the old people trying to explain Mannconomy.
"Refined metal is what creates a key"
How cute.
Buds and Max heads are really worth something? Why? Are they so rare?
They are exclusive, as neither one can be obtained anymore, and unlike some other exclusives they look cool, giving them value.
I remember when my friend started playing TF2, he would always play on a 24/7 Hoodoo server.
Now he's getting games such as Skyrim and MW3 and making like 250 bucks just because of hats :v:
its like an oil industry jesus
Alright then, so what we need to save the global economy is hats?

Well, something like that would be desirable if one were a fan of Sam & Max, rather than for an aesthetic purpose.
I'm just bitter that my Dealer's Visor is worthless.
Would the money gained from these hats translate into hard cash, or just some form of credit that can only be used on steam?

Before there was an official trading system, unusual hats went for up to $1000 US dollars. I'm not even kidding. People would pay that shit over paypal, and wear their new shiny hat, and be happy with it.
They've gotten more common now, and reach about 200-300 or so for a new particle, last i checked.
How much is my Soldier's Medal worth?

So fucking worth it. And I'm already slowly crawling back to the way I was before.

the amount of people laughing at the players who buy tf2 items is amazing. I'm sure those people would point and laugh at some things you spend your money on/what you enjoy doing. that 400 bottle of wine you bought? what an alcoholic "fucking retard".
pull the dicks out of your asses, people
"Refined metal is what creates a key"
What?
kotaku.
Seeing things like this make me feel bad for my friend who traded his Max head away the day trading came out for one hat. It's worth... what, now, like 150 dollars?

except that wine is an actual physical item you can use, while a TF2 hat is a combination of some pixels in a game, which can many times sell for more than an video game, depending on how "rare" that pixel combination is.
